Forum Marked as Read..?? How??
This is a very helpful button. It has to do with the side of the forum where you can see this---> 
This symbol indicates that there is a new post in the forum. Now, once you have read all the threads you want to read in a forum, you can click on the link "Mark forum as read", and it will disappear from that forum on the main page. If you use this feature regularly, it is very easy to find forums where someone has posted a new message.
There is a similar link on the main page: "Mark ALL forums as read". This is like a main default setting - all them all the way down the forum will disappear. It is useful to do this once you have read all the forum, as we office staff do so that when we return if you see the moving icon we know there is a new post.
Also when you go into a forum / thread you will see a flashy star  if you see this, that indicates also that there is a post that you have not read.
