Lament for a Rose
Okay, this will probably go at thje end of my history as an epilogue whene'er I finish it. This took me several weeks of calculus and environmental science, you know I imitated the basic rhyme and meter schemes of every song Sam sings in the books. (So it's alternating lines of iambic tetrameter and triameter.) I guess it's weird to write the funeral song of the hobbit you wish you were, but I can't help myself. Let me know what you think. I am open to suggestions/corrections. Oh, and remember to read it with an accent-- some of the rhymes depend on it.
Anyway, here we go.
Lament for a Rose
sung by Samwise at the funeral of his beloved wife Rose
A Rose like you so red in bloom
there ne'er will grow again,
For o'er your grave the spider's loom
will weave a glossy chain.
When through all lands so far and grand,
when shadows hovered near,
Then thought I of your gentle hand,
and all clouds disappeared.
Remember Spring the Day we wed,
the flowers in your hair,
I say again the words we said
with that same solemn care.
There never was a home so glad,
never a better wife,
Nor better ma a thirteen had
than you who gave ours life.
So all our Days did come and wane
in Frodo's gift, Bag End,
and there we lived and did remain,
and all our days did spend.
There is no balm this whole world wide,
no kindly Elven cure
to heal the wound left at my side,
by you, my Rose so pure.
Now here you lie in deep red earth,
beneath the Mallorn tree,
my heart with you in tiny berth
to keep you near to me.

--- I noticed after a time that I hold a pen like a smoker holds a cigarette, addicted, ever balanced between thumb and forefinger, ready to be placed thoughtfully in the corner of my mouth or to burn words into pages. ~Zee
