The History of Cailinn Elanesse Part 3

As the evening progressed, the storm quicky died away. A thick, ghostly fog crept down from the north and covered the land, drowning it in eerie white mists. The moon was veiled from sight by a pale curtain of grey and a biting chill hung in the air.

Inside the Meneldor's house, however, Cailinn was enjoying herself very much. A delicious meal was laid out on the table and a cheery fire was crackling in the hearth near by. Cailinn was arrayed in a flowing robe of silver-blue and her hair, which had been let down, fell softly down her back like a river of gold. As she ate, she listened intently to Aithar tell of his past and that of Gondor's. Many things she heard were very sad and terrible, for he spoke of the numerous wars that had taken place and of the glorious days of old that were now lost in the depths of time and memory. Cailinn had heard like tales before, long ago, in Neverwinter, but as she listened, she was filled with sorrow. Gondor had suffered much grief and pain and Cailinn was saddened to be reminded of the stories and songs she had heard, for she knew that a shadow darkened the future of Men.

At last, as the evening waned and night drew near, Aithar's tales came to an end. Cailinn sat in silence and pondered all that she had been told, and for a moment, all was quiet. Then, at length, Cailinn spoke.

"The history of these lands is very interesting...very extravagant," she said quietly, turning to Aithar,"it is full of valour and yet of sadness, too."

"Won't you tell us of your history?"Nierel asked.

"My family's history is very long and night approaches,"Cailinn answered,"I do not think that we would have the time."

"It is not often that we have an Elf in our house, however,"Nierel said,"I do not mind that the hour is late."

Cailinn turned her eyes to the fire and sat quietly for a moment, as if lost in thought. Then, she began:

"Long ago, in the time of the Two Trees, my grandmother, Nerwen, was born in Valinor to Finarfin, son of Finwe, King of the Noldor, and Earwen, daughter of Olwe, King of the Teleri of Alqualonde. She was strong of body, mind, and will and was accounted beautiful. Her hair was admired by all and was held to be a marvel unmatched, for it was golden like that of her father's, but more rich and radiant, being touched by some memory of the starlike silver of her mother; and the Eldar said that in her tresses the light of the Two Trees had been snared.

"From her earliest years, my grandmother had an extrordinary gift of insight into the minds of others, but judged them with mercy and understanding. She witheld her goodwill from none save only Feanor, her uncle, with whom she was unfriends forever.

"She joined in the flight of the Noldor, wishing to exercise her talents in Middle-Earth, and thus crossed the Great Sea. There, Feanor betrayed his kin and burned the fair ships of the Teleri with which they had crossed, leaving the Noldor with the decision of either returning defeated to Valinor or crossing the icy hills of the Helcaraxe. The fire in their hearts was young and so, the remaining Noldor endured the Helcaraxe and came into Doriath. During their time there, my grandmother met Celeborn. Great love grew between them and they were wedded. Celeborn gave her the name Galadriel, meaning radiant garland, in reference to her hair.

"After the incessant wars with Morgoth, where all of my grandmother's family, except for her parents in Valinor, were lost, Celeborn and Galadriel crossed Ered Lindon and came into Eriador. Many Noldor, including Grey-Elves and Green-Elves, were in their following and they dwelt for awhile around Lake Nenuial, which is north of the Shire. It was here that my uncle, Amroth, was born and later, my aunt, Celebrian.

"The Second Age came and Galadriel became aware of Sauron and perceived that an evil controlling purpose was coming from beyond Eriador and the Misty Mountains. Thus Celeborn and Galadriel moved eastward and founded the Noldorin realm of Eregion. In their company was a craftsman named Celebrimbor, who had an almost Dwarvish obsession with crafts. He became the chief artificer of Eregion and entered into a close relationship with the Dwarves of Khazad-dum. From this relationship, the realms of Eregion and Khazad-dum became very powerful. This greatly worried Sauron. He moved into Mordor and there built up his strength until he himself came to Eregion wearing the fairest form he could contrive. He called himself Annatar, Lord of Gifts, and said that he had been sent by the Valar to aid the Elves. He taught the Elven smiths of the brotherhood of Mirdain many things. He guided their labors and they made rings of power, not knowing that his true desire was to put a bond upon the Elves.

"Sauron's hold upon the Mirdain became so great that he persuaded them to revolt against Celeborn and Galadriel. Thus, Galadriel left Eregion, taking Amroth and Celebrian with her, and passed through Khazad-dum into Lorinland where she took up rule. Celeborn would not go for he refused to pass through the realm of the Dwarves, having never forgiven them for the part they played in the destruction of Doriath.

"Meanwhile, Sauron forged the One Ring to perceive the things done by the lesser rings and to govern the thoughts of those that wore them. When he put it on, however, the Elves were aware of him and perceived that he would take control of them. They were angry and fearful and took off their rings. Upon finding that he had not deceived the Elves, Sauron was filled with wrath and came upon them in open war. He demanded that they return the rings to him, since the Elven smiths could not have attained to their making without his lore and council, but the Elves fled and hid the three rings they had saved.

"Now Celebrimbor, who had merely accepted Sauron for who he had pretended to be and had not been corrupted in heart or faith, went to Lorinland to again take council with Galadriel. It was then that my grandmother received Nenya, the White Ring, which caused Lorinland to strengthen and be made beautiful. It also, however, roused the hidden desire for the Sea in her and caused it to grow strong. Thus, she entrusted Lorinland to Amroth and went with Celebrian to Imladris, seeking Celeborn. There, they found him and so dwelt in that land for a long time. AFter several years had passed, they departed and journeyed to many places in Middle-Earth, from the little inhabited lands in Belfalas to King Thranduil's realm in northern Mirkwood.

"After awhile, Galadriel became filled with foreboding, and went with Celeborn to Lorien, where my mother Elaviel was born. For many years they dwelt with Amroth, my grandmother being concerned to learn of the growin shadow in Mirkwood and of the dark stronghold of Dol Guldur.

"Meanwhile, my mother grew to be tall and fair with the same radiant tresses of gold as that of her mother's. She was known throughout Lorien as Lady Elaviel, but was called Luitha Linna, meaning enchanting song, by the Elves, for she would often wander through the forest singing Elvish songs of old; and all who heard her were awed and said that she had been blessed by the Valar witht the gift of song.

"At one time, as my mother sat by the river Nimrodel and sang a song of Elbereth, an Elf came to her. He was Lord Selore, the brother of King Thranduil of the Woodland Realm, who had come to Lorien on an errand. When he saw my mother, he loved her and my mother, him. They spent many a day together and their love for eachother grew. At last, they were wedded, in the Twilight Valley, and my grandparents were pleased and they accepted Selore.

Then, seeing that their daughter was happy and that the Golden Wood was yet prosperous and beautiful, my grandparents departed to Imladris. There was peace in Lorien until Amroth, who had journeyed to Belfalas, was lost and the forest in peril. The Dark Lord Sauron was inflicting war upon Rhovannion and his armies were near. In their distress, eight families, who were led by Elestar and Velindelor (the granparents of one of my kin, Asenath), ventured far into the forest to a place called Neverwinter. Here Elestar and Velindelor protected them, but they were afraid, for the only shielding they had was the dense screen of trees.

"As they waited, Velindelor's sister, Alynath, went to the flower glade of Nierninwa and prayed to the Valar. That night, a gentle rain fell which caused a mist to veil the forest, protecting the Elves from sight. Eight of the smaller trees grew tall and majestic so that each family could build their Elvenhome among them. It was then that my father established our house, the House of Elanesse. He made our family symbol a flower-shaped jewel upon leaves like those of a mallorn, for our family, along witht he family of Laurdunya, craft jewelry. The other families had their own craft as well, and Neverwinter grew and prospered.

"The Third Age came and after the wedding of my aunt, Celebrian, to Lord Elrond of Imladirs, my grandparents returned to Lorien to take up rule. They were welcomed by the Elves and there was peace in the land for many years. During this time, great joy came to my family with the birth of my sister. She was named Neneithel by my grandfather and was given a small Elven star witht he first letter of her name upon it by my father, who is a crafter of fine jewels. It was a time of joy and there was bliss throughout the realm, as in the Spring of Arda, long ago, and in the glorious days of Valinor before the rise of Melkor.

"Then, rumours of war arose and all laughter and song faded into a hushed silence, as if the world was gripped in some unexplanable state of watchfulness and fear. The armies of the Dark Lord began moving across Rhovannion and war swiftly broke out. Elves and Men fought together but were driven back, and my father was severely wounded. He traveled by night and made it to Lothlorien, along with others who sought refuge from the terrors that invaded Mirkwood.

"My father was taken to Caras Galadhon, for many Elves were there to aid with healing, since there were many injured soldiers, both of Elven race and of Men. Over time, my father regained strength and became well, which brought great relief to my mother. They returned to Neverwinter and lived in peace for a time. As Neneithel grew, my mother became awar that she was again going to have a child, and my family was filled with joy.

"In the months that followed, war came again to Lorien. Our enemies drew near to the Woods, burning some of the mallorns, but by the power of Nenya, a great rain fell which quenched the terrible fires, and our enemies were defeated.

"Shortly after, when peace was restored and there was again song and bliss throughout the realm, I was born, and was named Cailinn by Galadriel. My father loved us all very much, and as I grew, he taught me, as he had taught Neneithel, the skills of archery and of riding. On my fourth birthday, he brought me a horse of the Rohirrim, which I named Nimue. Nimue became my greatest friend and I took him with me wherever I went.

"Later on, my parents left Neneithel and I in the care of Celeborn and Galadriel as they journeyed to Rivendell to meet with Lord Elrond. My grandmother was uneasy at their going, but she said nothing of it so as not to worry my sister and I.

"Many days passed and finally, my mother returned...but she was alone. Her eyes were clouded with tears and her heart heavy with sorrow and grief. It was then that we learned that Selore had been killed by a company of Orcs that had waylaid them in Redhorn Pass.

"The days that followed were like to a horrible dream. My mother's grief was so great that she came close to death. Over time, however, her pain lessened a little and at last, we returned to Neverwinter, where joy was again restored."

When Cailinn's tales came to an end, the hour was very late. She thanked the Meneldor's cordially and then returned to her room. A light wind had blown the fog away and was now rustling the leaves on the trees outside and stirring the curtains on her window, through which the moon filtered silver-blue. It reminded Cailinn of nights in Lothlorien, and as she sat on her bed, her mind was flooded with memories...

~*Neverwinter, Lothlorien*~

"Atari, Atari! (mother, mother),"Cailinn called as she made her way to her mother's chamber.

**My apologies for the many typo's! I typed this at like 11:00 last night and was not only tired, but in a hurry. I don't have the power to delete and when I tried to edit the mistakes, the thing told me that I had a maximum of 10000, so I just left it how it was. Again, I'm sorry, I know it's annoying**

I am re-writing the 1st and 2nd parts of my history. I had written them before I read the books or known hardly anything about Middle-Earth, so after reading them again, I decided to write them again. They will be similar to what they already are, but better (hopefully lol). It won't take me long.emoticon The 3rd part will stay the same!

Re: The History of Cailinn Elanesse

Greetings Cailinn Elanesse,

I am new to this place and would like to ask a question if I may.

My people all have names with a meaning attached, for example my name Ellvar Te'Lanah Lupan means Shadow Of The Wolf in my people's tongue. In Lorien you would call me Sinda Tel'draug.

What is the meaning of your name, if I my be so impertenant?
