Re: The Characters
I might as well answer now...
My favourite book character is Legolas. He just fascinated me from the first because we know so little about him for certain. All we really know is that he comes from Mirkwood, is the son of the King and a skilled archer. We don't know how old he is, what other family he has, we're not even sure what he looks like. I like this mysterious quality about him, not really knowing what makes him tick, what's going on behind the eyes. His unique abilities as an elf just add to the intrigue.
He's the same in the film of course, and also very hot , but after The Two Towers owyn has become my favourite film character. I found her quite cold and distant in the book, but Miranda Otto has made her human for me. I can identify with her feeling trapped in a situation with no visible way out, feeling in a cage. I also love the whole Rohan culture and the way it's been brought to life in the film with the costumes and the sets and location, so the fact that she is the only female character from there and one of the few in the story endears her to me too.
I wish I could say I was most like owyn , but in all honesty I think I'm a Frodo, lol. Overlooking the fact I'm a girl, obviously! Quiet, bookish, loyal to friends, brave but not overtly so. He gets on with his task with little complaint and just accepts that this is what he has to do. I think we have all that in common, as well as not being too keen on gold jewellery.

Re: The Characters
From the book, Gandalf. He's packed full of knowledge, which makes him one of the most interesting characters, because he answers a lot of the questions, since he knows so much of the history of Middle-Earth. He is also very cool himself, hope always endures in him. I like all that he stands for, and how he can appreciate the hobbits. Shadowfax is also very cool.
From the film, Aragorn. In the book he seems more confident and sure of himself, but Viggo's made him a little more real. He's an awesome character, with so much background and an enormous future. You want to see good things happen to him and watch him kick butt.
I'm probably most like Arwen, conflicted and confused. lol. Actually, I don't think I relate to one specific character, it would probably be a combination.

The Characters
I loved Merry and Pippin's part in the books. They were just there in the Fellowship, not really helping but not getting in the way. In The Two Towers they were a part of something that helped out. In Return of the King they do something that saves and helps out in the war. It's like watching someone grow. They are very cool. I also must say that Bill the Pony is right up there with Mer and Pip. Kicking that sheriff at the end...heehee I love that part! Than again I can think of five other charaters that I love just as much as Mer and Pip...I love em all!
I must say that Gimli. He was just so awesome! He was there always giving his thought on where to go, when they were disscusing on the course they were taking. Fighting with 'the elf', giving his all when they were being attacked. Adding that bit of short humor to the movie.
The charater I'm most like Boromir. I am ready to defend what I love and believe in and do what's best for my 'people', but I'm probally the first to give in. If given the chance after I have 'failed', I will try to redeam myself.

Re: The Characters
Who is your favourite character from the book?
I'm afraid I've got to say Gandalf is my fave too!! lol
He is just cool, and is really the most iconic character when you read it I think.
Gollum maybe the most complex character, but Gandalf is my favourite
Who is your favourite character from the film?
Again, in the film Gandalf (the grey) still wins my vote, such a great job has been done to make him seem distant enough to be a bit special yet friendly enough to like the character too... Not as sure about Gandalf the white on film just yet, I know he is meant to be a bit sterner etc, but still...
Which character overall are you most like?
If Samwise was an Elf, that'd be me.
Sam keeps going even when things look bad, but I'm not quite as, um, chubby or hobbit-like I think.

Re: The Characters
I don't actually think I can choose a favorite. The minute I think one thing for one, I come up with reasons for all the others. There are good and bad things for each. So, sorry, can't really choose for faves. I really like Sam best, but favorite is so hard to bestow on any amongst so fair a company!
As for character I'm most like, I really think Sam the most. Holding back, but kinda like a pug when I think someone's being unfair. Also pretty loyal but not blindly. If I promise to take care of someone, you bet your booties I'd do it. I'm very much of the hobbit mentality in many ways, though intellectually I admit I may have an aire of elvishness to me. However, I'm like the girl who's read and quotes everything Shakespeare ever wrote while she's scrubbing a floor, or wrassling some cattle, or doing something very tied to hearth, home, and land. I think then it's fair to say I'm like the Sam of the books.
