Do Americans have a different definition of the worde 'Favo(u)rite? lol I'd say if you like Sam best, he's you favourite.emoticon
I don't think it means you think he's better than the other characters, just that you like him more. emoticon

By the way, my Shakespeare-reading friend, don't you think Sam is very similar to Horatio? And Frodo to Hamlet come to think of it...

Re: The Characters

Who is your favourite character from the book?: Wow, I can't say I have one favorite character. But throughout the book, I was compelled most strongly to Frodo and Aragorn. Frodo because he had some many trials and troubles (like so many of us do in our lives) and he was able to get through it all. He never completely gave up. I could see myself in Frodo quite often. And, come on, who doesn't love the little hobbit? Aragorn because he was so noble, loyal and wise. I thought his role in the book, to be a sort of leader for the Fellowship and claim his throne in Gondor was just plain awesome.

Who is your favourite character from the film? The hobbits are so adorable in the film! My top favorites being Pippin and Frodo. I still love Frodo as a favorite. I also think Legolas was amazing in the two films and I am liking him more and more!

Which character overall are you most like? Like Nath, I'd say a combination of all the characters. I am like the hobbits in the sense that I enjoy life, food and I am a very bookish person. I am like the humans because they are so loyal to what they love to the point that they would die for it. As for the elves, I do not consider myself wise, elegant or well spoken. But the elves have such history and love for music and art about them that I find I have in me.

(edit because I got the bolding wrong.)

....Frodo. Definietly Frodo. All the others are well and good, and I love reading about them and stuff, but its all on the sidelines, compared to what's going on with Frodo. Frodo and the Ring is what its all about - and Gollum is probably my second favorite character because he's the possible future of Frodo. He shows you what this is all about, why this is happening and why you have to destroy the Ring and Sauron. But Gollum isn't.....lovable, I'm not able to give him my "undying loyalty" as I am able to give to Frodo, so yeah. emoticon

Who is your favourite character from the film?

Umm.......okay, the films are basically the books for me. emoticon I thought they did an amazing job making (probably) the best book-to-movie movies, ever. But if we're going to talk about the movies.......one thing that was extremely disappointing to me in the 2nd film was how they messed up Faramir, both his role in the story and his character. Poor guy! Faramir was very noble to me, and trustworthy - even when he didn't trust Frodo and Sam you knew it was because he had reason to be wary, he was doing his job. But he was always the good guy, even when he ruined things with Gollum. And maybe its just me, but I don't ever remember him being tempted by the Ring. Anyway. In the movie they totally butchered him.

Which character overall are you most like?

Umm? No idea. Absolutely no idea. I'm not like Eowyn or Arwen or Galadriel, and none of the guys fit me. So. emoticon

I read that with all the characters in the film they tried to give them a charater arc to make their individual journeys more interesting to watch unfold on screen. That's why I think you can perhaps prefer the book or film version to their other counterpart with some of the changes that have been made. emoticon

I hope there is a major change in Faramir in ROTK, I won't think they exactly butchered him (taking in mind the character arc) unless he fails to at least end up the great and noble Captain Faramir he is in the books. I'm really interested to hear the director/writer commentary on the EE DVD and to read Brian Sibley's last book on the adaption because I'm not really convinced about some of the liberties they took with TTT yet. :uneasy: emoticon

My favorite character from the book would have to be either Pippin or Merry. They add so much to the book to me because at first they seem almost unimportant to the story, but their worths are proven together and separately. They have a great friendship that shines through the books. They show how each and every being has great worth, sometimes in unexpected places and times. Everyone serves a purpose. Aragorn also holds a warm place in my heart.

My favorite character from the movie would probably be either Eowyn or Gollum, actually. While I love the Fellowship, Eowyn is so beautiful and is portrayed so well in the movies that she is hard to not love. Gollum is my favorite part of TTT because of his argument with himself. It's hilarious.

I relate most to probably Eowyn. I am tired of being caged up where I am, and while I don't want to fight, I want to prove myself in the world. In that way, I also relate to Pip or Mer as well.
