Re: The Characters
Well, I must say that I loved a lot of the characters, and, since I haven't read RotK yet (which I'm getting today! ), I don't know much about some of the characters.
From the first two, I really liked Galadriel, Mer, Pip, and Legolas. Mer and Pip added humor to the book and I loved how easy going they were, yet still loyal to the Fellowship.
Legolas was the optomistic one and I really liked that. He was always light-hearted, but he fought hard and long (especially in Helm's Deep!). His friendship with Gimli is also interesting. I thought it was cool how they started out disliking eachother and then ended up coming together through the journey.
I must say that even though Galadriel didn't play a big part in the books, she still helped the Fellowship in different ways. She was kind and wise and seemed to know the ability and the heart of each person in the Fellowship.
In the TT, they didn't say much about Eowyn, but she seemed to kind of stand out. I can't really say much about her, but I thought she was a strong person. Hopefully they tell more about her in RotK, which I think they do.

Do Americans have a different definition of the worde 'Favo(u)rite? lol I'd say if you like Sam best, he's you favourite.
I don't think it means you think he's better than the other characters, just that you like him more.
By the way, my Shakespeare-reading friend, don't you think Sam is very similar to Horatio? And Frodo to Hamlet come to think of it...
lol, no, Americans have the same definition... it's just me that's the odd ball :smirk: ... to my mind, 'favorite' has more to do with a deliberate assessment of how the nature and actions of a character impact the reader/viewer, while liking a character bests means I identify more with that character than any others. Yep, Zee's letting loose her odd notions again, lol.
As for Sam being like Horatio, I can see that, true. Actually, that's an excellent comparison for both Sam and Frodo Cool, McPaul!

Re: The Characters
Who is your favourite character from the book? Yikes, tough question I think maybe Gandalf and Galadriel. I just love all the Elves and the top ppl.
Who is your favourite character from the film? Another hard question! Aragorn is so noble, and Eowyn is wonderful!
Which character overall are you most like? Maybe Galadriel, not the beauty or height part, but the part of wisdom and such.

My favorite character from the book would have to be either Pippin or Merry. They add so much to the book to me because at first they seem almost unimportant to the story, but their worths are proven together and separately. They have a great friendship that shines through the books. They show how each and every being has great worth, sometimes in unexpected places and times.
Ditto. I love the way they grow so much throughout their journey....specially Pippin, who has his faults and makes mistakes.....but grows and matures, learning from them. He is kinda forced to grow up pretty fast.
My favorite character from the movie is (Hmmm, I wonder) Pippin. At first he seems like merely a background character, but on closer examination you see further....you see how he is portrayed as above mentioned, as naive and curious, and how his curiosity gets him into trouble, and how he is forced to grow up rather quickly...especially at the point where they lose Galdalf in the fellowship.....that seems to be a turning point for him.
I relate most to is probably Arwen, due to my smancyness.
