Re: The Book Topic
I don't think I ever read Peter Pan, just saw the Disney film. *slaps hand* I love the story though, I should get a copy.

Re: The Book Topic
I love how Disney murdered the story though. It's a great film, but it's very very...racist, sexist...etc.
The book specifies that Hook's "hook" is on his right hand. Disney didn't want him to be a leftie so they specifically have Wendy say "No Jon. It was his LEFT hand."

Re: The Book Topic
Beeza!
I'm reading Peter Pan now!
Well, I started it a week ago, but I've not read it in a few days. Halfwayish through, though!
--- Aunt: A hidden kiss....
Wendy: But, what is it for?
Aunt: It is for the greatest adventure of all. They that find it have slipped in and out of Heaven.
Wendy: Find what?
Aunt: The one the kiss belongs to.

Re: The Book Topic
Hmmm, I'm behind!
I read A Little Princess last week. I've never read it before though I remember reading the Secret Garden. I thought it was great!
And now I'm reading Shadow of the Hedgmon. A sequal to some of those Ender books I was reading before.
My husbands going to be in Henry V, so I'm thinking I should read it. Anyone ever read Henry V?
You know, I've never read Peter Pan. . . I'm thinking it's about time!

Really? I haven't seen it in years and years. Even more reason to read the book AND see the film again.
... to compare, obviously, I don't enjoy watching sexist, racist films.

Re: The Book Topic
I'm reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy at the mo. It's tough because it's purposefully written to be a bit confusing and my poor brain is all wooley at the moment. It is very clever and funny though. I hope I reach the end!

Re: The Book Topic
Author: Douglas Adams
Title: The Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy
Plot summary: It's about this guy, Arthur Dent, who wakes up one morning to discover his house is to be demolished, then the entire planet gets demolished and things just go from bad to worse.
Comments: I'm not usually one for sci-fi, the whole thing just doesn't appeal to me for some reason, but this book is so witty and clever that I perservered with it and ended up enjoying it muchly. It was a bit difficult though as I got easily confused with all the convoluted ideas/explanations of things within the galaxy, lol. I'm told that that is the idea though.
Rating: 8/10
Now I'm reading 'Entering Normal' by Anne LeClaire. It's for this reading circle my friend got up and running. It's good so far!

Re: The Book Topic
right now Im reading Good Omens, a hilarious book
Title: Good Omens
Authors: Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
Summary: (borrowed from Amazon)
You see, there was a bit of a mixup when the Antichrist was born, due in part to the machinations of Crowley, who did not so much fall as saunter downwards, and in part to the mysterious ways as manifested in the form of a part-time rare book dealer, an angel named Aziraphale. Like top agents everywhere, they've long had more in common with each other than the sides they represent, or the conflict they are nominally engaged in. The only person who knows how it will all end is Agnes Nutter, a witch whose prophecies all come true, if one can only manage to decipher them. The minor characters along the way (Famine makes an appearance as diet crazes, no-calorie food and anorexia epidemics) are as much fun as the story as a whole, which adds up to one of those rare books which is enormous fun to read the first time, and the second time, and the third time.
Comments: It's like Monty Python cleaned up and applied to religion-- like my family's very own Saint Fred in a way, too. Absolutely hilarious spoof on all the Armageddon/tribulation talk and books. A really great read.
Top Ten Favorite Books? Oh my. The top one is probably my favorite.. after that, there is no real order.
All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria Remarque
Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien
The Killer Angels, Michael Shaara
Flags of Our Faithers, James Bradley
Bernadette Speaks A Life of Saint Bernadette Soubirous in Her Own Words, Renè Laurentin
Band of Brothers, Stephen Ambrose
To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee
The Screwtape Letters, C.S. Lewis
The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne
The Phantom Tollbooth, Norton Juster
okay, okay, it's eleven..
Q to all non-Americans: are any of you at all familiar with the book To Kill a Mockingbird? I'm curious because it's required reading for us (in my state atleast most kids have to read it at one time or another). I guess you all may be familiar because of the film? I totally recommend it to anyone-- it's really masterful and beautiful. (And while I love Gregory Peck, it's much better than the movie.) Maybe I'm offbase to think it wouldnt be overseas as much. Curiouser and curiouser.
