Crossing the Sea.....
Just wondered....
What exactly is meant by the LOTR term "cross the sea"? Is it anything like dying?
It may be an integral (sp?) part of my history later on...

Re: Crossing the Sea.....
No, it doesn't mean dying. When Frodo and the others crossed the Great Sea, they were sailing to the Undying Lands, or Valinor, which is where the Valar and most of the Elves lived. The Elves were originally from the Undying Lands, but sailed to Middle-Earth in or before the First Age, because they were interested in the new land. Many of them returned to the Undying Lands later on, so that only a small number of Elves remained in Middle-Earth during the Third Age. After the Third Age, almost all of the Elves returned to the Undying Lands.

Re: Crossing the Sea.....
Actually, not quite, Che. You're off by just a little bit. The Elves originated in Middle-Earth, but Orome, one of the Valar, brought them to Valinor. Those he didn't go with him are the Dark Elves, like in our Adventure. This all happened before and during the 1st Age. It's all in the Silmarillion. The Elves actually only came back to ME 'cuz Morgoth took the Silmarilli and Feanor went to get them back. Galadriel was in the group that went to ME with Feanor. She's actually older than me!!!

The Sil really reminds me of the Bible, in content and style and plot - check for parellels as you read it, its very cool. Props to Tollers.

Re: Crossing the Sea.....
Yeah it is very biblical. I love the beginning especially, where Iluvatar and the Valar create Arda to music. So gorgeous!

Re: Crossing the Sea.....
The beginning is so beautiful and magnificient. There are definitely parallels to the Bible.
