Batman Begins Sequel
From Mr. Nolan - Not much here but he seems to indicate that The Joker will not be the next villan up
So what's the next step? There was some mention of The Joker at the end of the film- does that give you a lot of room to play with for the sequel?
Those elements at the end, certainly, are just there for the feeling of Batman Begins rather than an end specifically suggesting a sequel. On the other hand, it’s a very exciting sort of character and a very exciting sort of world that we’ve got to play in, and I have been talking to the studio about what we would do for a sequel. I wouldn’t do it as my next film, but I’m talking about doing it as a film after that.
Jeff Robinov at Warners was quoted as saying that you tell him what the sequel is going to be. Is that the case?
Well, he’s very polite to put it that way! I have marched into his office and I have told him what David Goyer and I think the story is, and they seem to like it a lot. I think the success of Batman Begins, in my terms, in it being a film that I wanted it to be, is very much due to a collaboration with the studio. It wasn’t really one or the other telling the other what it should be, so I think he’s poking fun!

Re: Batman Begins Sequel
That's very interesting. Honestly, I never looked at the playing card as a clear indication on who would be in the next sequel. I just want them to take it slow and keep the present formula. Hopefully they won't "Schumacher" it up!

Re: Batman Begins Sequel
Sounds to me as if WB has learned that keep to the good formula.
The card was a Joker card which seemed to indicate the next one might be the Joker but I have also only seen it mentioned as a way to make a sort of continuity and move on to something else.

Re: Batman Begins Sequel
My thought on the subject is that they will continue to set up the Joker in the next Batman film but not focus on him as the main villian. If they're smart (meaning the powers that be at WB), they will keep the Joker for the third (and final?) film.
As far as casting news, I've heard everyone is on board for the second film EXCEPT Chris Nolan. It's not definite that he's directing for sure - meaning that there is no signed contract in place yet. I'm sure he'll get a lot more cash thrown at him (and he deserves it!!) I have heard that he's interested in casting Paul Bettany as the Joker - a fantastic cast, in my humble opinion. If one thing is for sure, Chris Nolan knows how to cast the right people for his films. He's working on a film for Disney right now called "The Prestige" with Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Scarlett Johansson, Michael Caine, and David Bowie. (talk about a cast!)
I just don't know if I can wait until 2007 for the next Batman...

Re: Batman Begins Sequel
Welcome to the board Craig. I think they should hold out on the Joker too. Like saving the best for last.

Re: Batman Begins Sequel
From what I have read, the Joker is definitely not the next villan in the series.
I wonder if they will eventually get a Robin and Batgirl in there or just leave that alone?

Re: Batman Begins Sequel
Whatever the case, like the man said, let's just not "Schumaker" the whole thing up, eh? LOL.
While the card technically implies the Joker, this could be the old bait-n-switch where we're lead to believe it's mr. J but it's actually the Mad Hatter or Osama Bin Laden or something.
