My Backpack's got jets, I'm Boba... THE FETT!
Continuation from the following thread:
http://com2.runboard.com/bthecostumelair.ffutureprojects.t6
Alright folks... just to give you an update on the progress of the costume.
I got the armor (made from sheet aluminum) Girth belt, cape and a digital chest display. I still have a long way to go, but it's a good start!
The armor looks incredible! All the dents and blast marks are just beautiful. And the best part is, as time goes on, this armor will naturally weather and get scuffed up, enhancing the way it already looks!
The digital chest readout is a card about the size of a credit card, and it goes under the left chest/breast plate. It runs off a 9-volt battery.
The cape is a nice beige color with a darker brown stripe down the middle. It's been distressed and made to look like it's seen better days.
Lastly the girth belt is a real rope girth belt from an equestrian shop that was dyed a brownish color.
Now, to get my boots, flightsuit and vest, helmet, gaunts, gloves and so on!

Re: My Backpack's got jets, I'm Boba... THE FETT!
You know, I never thought about that. Actually the title cames from a song that I love.
It's called Fett's Vette and it's by MC Chris. It's a rather hillarious rap song about Boba. (There is some profanity). I heard it and started laughing...
And one more update... I ordered my boots on Tuesday, and if all goes well, I'll have them Monday! Slowly working on it... this is going to be a very expensive costume for me. And more than likely will put an end to any new costumes for a while. However, things do have a strange way of somehow working out otherwise!

Re: My Backpack's got jets, I'm Boba... THE FETT!
First off, I apologize for the double posting, but I had to give you another update.
2/21/06 -
My boots arrived yesterday. I got them from a company called CA Boots. They are known for making Stormtrooper boots as well as several others. And today I bought my Jetpack! I'll have to do a bit of work to it, painting and so forth, but at least I have my Jetpack now!

Update... Update... Update... Update...
3/7/06
More news from the front.
As of today, I have either in my possession or on order the following:
Armor (made from sheet metal/aluminum)
Digital Chest Display
Cape
Girth Belt
Boots
Wookiee Braids/Scalps
Jetpack
(On order/coming)
Helmet
Blaster
The helmet is one that I'll need to paint myself. It's a kit that I bought from a member on The Dented Helmet. As for the blaster, it's a resin casting of the real base gun used, a Webley & Scott MkI Flare Gun. While not a real firearm, it's about as close as I'll get to the real deal and still be completely legal! I also bought the scope for the blaster. I went to my local K-Mart and bought a real 4x scope for $6.99. Considering the resin casting of the same thing sells for about $35.00 I figured I have just done a smart move.
I also plan on ordering the flightsuit/vest set this week!
I still need a few more items like the ammo belt, boot spikes, gloves, sidearm and holster... but things are slowly coming together!

Re: My Backpack's got jets, I'm Boba... THE FETT!
Well, a month has almost gone by since my last post/update and I am pleased to say that I am down to needing my last 2 items. I still need to get boot spikes, and also a neck seal, but that is it! All other major componants have been ordered!
My helmet arrived this past Wednesday. Now, begins the long, ardious task of painting and weathering it! For, you see, I bought a helmet "kit".
Just waiting on the ammo belt, sidearm, gaunts and other items to show up! Of course, as soon as the costume is complete, I'll post pictures.

Re: My Backpack's got jets, I'm Boba... THE FETT!
Wow... has it been almost 2 months since I last updated you all? My gosh.
Alright... Major update time now...
I got my helmet and have begun some work on it... not a lot!
Originally, the visor area was not cut out. I cut that piece out last weekend. Let me tell you, my hands were shaking like mad because I was affraid I would slip and accidently cut into an area I didn't want to. Well, I think I faired ok. I managed to make one minor little ding on the helmet, and I plan to keep it. I figure it helps add a bit of character to the helmet and make it more "personal".
This helmet will be painted by me with help from one of my friends. Even though I don't trust myself with a paintbrush, I want to at least attempt to make a nice looking Fett helmet. If I fail, I can always find someone to paint it for me. For those of you curious, this is a Fiberglass Helmet. Don't worry, it has the Range Finder, "ears" and all the other greeblies. I just didn't shoot them.
I have since sold off my JP, and bought a new one. The reason behind it is that I have a lot of items that I need to work on, paint, etc. The JP was just another project to add to the list. I sold it off to a person doing ROTJ Boba, and bought a JP from the guy that is making my Gaunts. Like the Gauntlets, this will come to me all painted and weathered, so all I'll have to do is strap it to my back!
^One of the blasters I'll be carrying on me. In The Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett actually has this sidearm strapped to him near the back of his right thigh. The blaster is pure resin as is the holster that I bought along with it. I've been told this is made from a competition pellet gun, and the holster I understand is designed for an underwater spear gun!
So as you can see, things are coming along. It just takes time. There is no way I will have this ready, or even attempt to bring this with me to SDCC this year. I am shooting for an September/October time frame for debut. Of course, when I do, I'll be sure to get pleanty of pictures and post some up here!!!
STAY TUNED!!!!!

Re: My Backpack's got jets, I'm Boba... THE FETT!
Wow... last post on this thread was in June?!?! Dang.
Well, a lot has happened. Some of you know... many don't. So, let me give you all a somewhat condensed version.
I started painting the helmet and was using a product called 'liquid masking film' in between paint layers to help achieve the "damaged" look I was going for. When the helmet was completely painted I went to remove the film and in the process, the layers of paint came off in sheets down to the base coat. In some cases, it even removed that!
I had to completely strip the helmet with acetone, and in the process the helmet had a minor adverse reaction. After fixing the damage (thank the maker for bondo!) I started painting again, this time using mustard as the masking agent.
This time around, the results were a heck of a lot better! So without further ado, I wish to present to you, my Boba Fett (ESB) Helmet!
