Big Apple Con hosts Captain Zorikh Costume Contest (pic)
The Big Apple Convention announces the most spectacular lineup of prizes ever for the Captain Zorikh Costume Contest!
Captain Zorikh's Costume contest, one of the most popular events at the Big Apple Comic Convention, announces a spectacular selection of prizes for the National Convention on Sunday, November 18th in New York City.
Forbidden Planet is offering gift certificates for $50 and $25.
Midnight Syndicate has contributed their "Out of the Darkness" CD retrospective of "Haunting orchestration, pulse-pounding melodies, and chilling gothic horror sound effects."
Author Michael J. Denault offers a signed edition of his horror novel "The Rellik"
A prize pack from IFC containing DVDs and other "IFC swag" valued up to $200, courtesy the Independent Film Channel.
Midtown Comics is offering one $50 gift certificate and two $20 gift certificates

The Rules:
1. All contestants should arrive at the contest at least five minutes before the contest is scheduled to begin.
2. Contestants will submit a 3" x 5" index card with their name, their character name, and contact information (e-mail, phone number, and mailing address) upon entering the contest. These cards will be used for the proper recording of the winners and in case any prizes have to be mailed. Cards will be provided on-site for those who do not bring their own..
3. You may come as any character from comics, science fiction, fantasy, horror, history, or make up your own.
4. You are invited to present your character. 30 seconds is the recommended time. Presentations lasting longer risk being "hooked."
5. Group entries are welcome.
6. Groups and teams of individuals are welcome to perform very brief skits. 90 seconds is the recommended length. Skits lasting longer risk being "hooked."
7. The prizes will be awarded on the basis of audience applause.
8. The audience will be instructed to judge the contestants on the basis of costuming excellence and performance.
9. The contestants are invited to stick around after the contest for photo ops.

On November 16-18, the Big Apple National Convention, NYC's longest-running comic book/sci-fi/fantasy/horror/pop culture convention will occur at the Penn Plaza Pavilion, 7th Ave at 33rd St./ This will be it's biggest show ever! Special celebrity guests include Hayden Panettiere, Kristen Bell, Katey Sagal, Walter Koenig, Gigi Edgley, Mira Furlan, Butch Patrick,William Mapother, Soupy Sales, Celeste Holm, Debbie D, King Kong Bundy, Joanna Krupa, Brian Clevinger, Dan “the Beast” Severn, and many, many more from movies, TV, pro wrestling, centerfold models, scream queens, athletes, and more. Over 100 comic book creators will be present including legendary comic book artists Neal Adams, Steranko, Carmine Infantino, Sergio Aragones, Joe Sinnott, along with fan favorites like Adam Hughes, Billy Tucci, Tim Sale, Mark Texeira, and underground creators S. Clay Wilson, Spain, and Mark Bode.
There will be more than 300 dealers & exhibitors, showcasing comics, toys, action figures, original art, videos, autographs, non-sports cards, TV & movie memorabilia & more. Also free giveaways, panel discussions, art seminars, special film showings, the NY Jedi, live action role playing, gaming, and much much more, and of course Captain Zorikh's Costume Contest! Captain Zorikh is a multi-talented writer, artist, actor, and musical entertainer. He has appeared in such films as “Laws of Gravity” and “After the Apocalypse,” and has appeared off-Broadway with such companies as the Faux-Real Theater Co. and Gorilla Rep. He has been entertaining, amusing, and educating Big Apple Con goers since 2002 with his lectures, panel hosting, performances, and of course, the Captain Zorikh Costume Contest. His insightful interviews and irreverent wit are a great addition to the Big Apple Con, and make every event even more memorable.
