Costume Contest at Big Apple Convention Saturday, April 1 2006

Captain Zorikh and Jolie Voltaire will be hosting the costume contest at the upcoming Big Apple Comic Book, Toy, Horror & Sci-Fi Expo at the Penn Plaza Pavilion in NYC on the weekend of March 30-April 2. The theme of the contest will be a tribute to legendary horror film director George A. Romero, and one of the prizes will be dinner with the noted director. Other prizes include a $100 gift certificate to the Halloween Adventure costume shop and a $ 20 gift certificate to Forbidden Planet.
The living dead, zombies, and ghouls are particularly invited to enter the competition, but any manner of costume is invited.
Legendary horror film director/producer George A. Romero will be hosting a rare live Q&A session and signing autographs America’s foremost master of horror, Mr. Romero returns to his birthplace, NYC, for this 3 day event. Mr. Romero is famous for his work on the “LIVING DEAD” series of movies beginning with “Night of the Living Dead” (1968) and continuing for 20 years with his famous series up to his latest creation “Land of the Dead” (2005).
The Big Apple Convention is New York’s longest running comic book, toy, horror and sci-fi event. Thousands of fans are expected to turn out to meet the celebrities and special guests, shop the dealer room and enjoy the festivities. Tri-Star Pictures, Monsters HD, Troma Entertainment and The Learning Annex are among the many well established companies that will be there.
Over 30 celebrity guests will be appearing all weekend, including Elvira Mistress of the Dark; Ken Foree (The Devil’s Rejects, Dawn of the Dead); Gary Howard Klar, Gaylen Ross and David Emge (Dawn of the Dead); Eugene Clark (Land of the Dead) Corin Nemec: (Parker Louis, Stargate SG-1); Jerri Manthey: (Survivor : the Australian Outback); Margot Kidder (Superman the Movie); Brande Roderick (Baywatch); Bill Daily (I Dream of Jeanie); Karen Lynn Gorney (Saturday Night Fever) Charlene Tilton (Dallas); Jane Weidlin (Guitarist of the Go-Go's , The Surreal Life); Paul Orndorff WWE Hall of Fame Wrestler “Mr. Wonderful”; Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca, Star Wars), Chanel Ryan (FHM Model); Jasmine St. Claire ECW Wrestling and starring in the upcoming Lion’s Gate Film “Dorm Daze 2”.
For Comic Book Fans, critically acclaimed creator Frank Miller (Sin City, Batman, Robocop) will be interviewing famed artist Neal Adams (Batman, X-Men). Gene Ha (Superman, X-Men, Batman, Green Lantern) will be making his first New York Convention appearance. Gahan Wilson (National Lampoon, the New Yorker, Playboy, Nuts!) will be making his first New York Convention appearance in decades. Also appearing will be cutting edge comic creators Phil Jimenez, Bill Tucci, Mark Texiera, Kyle Baker, Cliff Chiang, Toby Cypress, Rich Buckler, Tommy Castillo, and dozens more.
There aw plenty more special events planned, and promotional posters, t-Shirts, comic books and memorabilia will be given away throughout the weekend. Sounds like it's going to be a great event but unfortunately i'm not close enough to make it. Meeting Cassandra Peterson again would be a so worth the travel. I love Elvira!!!
I hope there's a nice turn out and hopefully you can share some photos with us later.

We did have a great turnout. The winner was a fellow portraying Ben Grimm, complete with hat and trenchcoat. Other notables were "OOh-Agh," a swamp monstar and a crew of zombies in tribute to George A Romero.
Unfortunately I, hosting the contest, did not get any pix, but I will put up pix from past contests soon!
