Winky vs Margarito
17.07.06 - Los Angeles – Today Chris Lighty, CEO of Winky Promotions extended a formal offer to Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum for $1.5 million to provide the services of Antonio Margarito. Said Winky Wright: “I am ready, willing and able to give Antonio Margarito a chance for a mega fight where he can prove to the world what he is all about. My promotional company Winky Promotions together with Golden Boy Promotions are ready to put together a spectacular promotion”..
Said Golden Boy Promotions President, Oscar de la Hoya: “We believe that this is a fair offer for Top Rank and Antonio Margarito. It is an opportunity for Antonio to get not only a big fight but also the biggest purse of his career. This is what Winky Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions are all about”.
YES! Its on like donkey kong! The hell with Mayweather. Thats all I personally have wanted and that is for Margarito to get the oportunity to show everyone that he is deserving of all the hype. Of course Winky is a much tougher fighter than Mayweather, but what better fighter to face than Winky Wright. Kudos to Winky indeed!

Re: Winky vs Margarito
Not so fast. Margarito's promoter Bob Arum doesn't do business with Golden Boy Promotions. This may be a move to make Margarito jump ship on Arum since Arum is gonna shoot down this offer.

Re: Winky vs Margarito
Intersting. Would Wright come back down to 154?

Re: Winky vs Margarito
Most likely. But if im Margarito, i request
that he come down all the way to 147. Given the fact that Margarito is in no position to
set conditions, I highly doubt that will happen.

Re: Winky vs Margarito
I think Margarito can handle the move up to 154. He was holding his own with Santos who is no slouch when they met. Winky has no reason to come down to 147 though.
I wish Margarito could get his mega-fights at 147 where he made his name but if Floyd isn't going to comply he'll have to go elsewhere.

Re: Winky vs Margarito
De la Hoya responds to Margarito:
LOS ANGELES – In recent weeks, there has been a hearty dose of bluster from the camp of WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito, claiming that he is the ‘most feared fighter in boxing’, and that no one is willing to fight him.
Golden Boy Promotions has the solution to Mr. Margarito’s problem in securing an opponent for a fight this year – in fact, it has three solutions in pound for pound superstar Winky Wright, former junior middleweight champion Kassim Ouma, and rising star Ishe Smith, all of whom are willing to battle Margarito at a moment’s notice.
'I respect Antonio Margarito as a fighter, but his claims that no one wants to fight him are baseless,' said Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya. 'We already offered Margarito’s promoter, Top Rank, a fight against Winky Wright, but they declined, saying that Margarito was not a middleweight. Well, we never discussed this fight as being at middleweight. Winky is more than willing to come down to 154 pounds for this fight, and given the fact that Margarito has fought at junior middleweight before and has called out other junior middleweights like Shane Mosley, Cory Spinks, and myself, I don’t see why this fight can’t be made.'
'And just in case Margarito doesn’t want to challenge himself against Winky Wright,' continues De La Hoya, 'we have two more warriors who are eager to test themselves against him – Kassim Ouma and Ishe Smith, both of whom can fight at 147 pounds.'
The ball is in your court, Antonio.

Re: Winky vs Margarito
I'll take a Margarito-Ouma fight any day. Fight of the year match up for sure. Both guys throw tons of punches. Ishe, please give me a break!
