attention to thoughts ~ at Runboard.com
Community logo

This board is multifaceted, crossing various topics from New Age, spirituality, metaphysical, psychology, physical issues, relationships, emotions, self-help and more. It is created for those who seek change and desire to empower themselves, to live life as an expression of who they really are in unconditional love. If you think/feel that your life and this world full of denial, fear and unlovingness is totally opposite what you desire, it is no coincidence that you are here.

To say that this board will be controversial is an understatement as it goes against almost everything society presently believes to be true about emotions, feelings, life and love. But then why wouldn't it be controversial if the desire and goal is the opposite of what is presently being experienced! To empower yourself, you need to be open to challenge everything you believe to be true, especially about love, life, emotions and feelings and also be willing to end your denials of self.

I openly share the knowledge, tools, messages and insights that I've gained through sixteen years of intensive personal experience and in working with others on their journey. Feel free to visit the various forums and posts and to also add your personal experiences, comments and questions. It is my intent that the ideas and works that will be discussed within this forum will not only expand your consciousness, but also activate your emotions and touch your heart.

In love, light and life,
John Rieger aka Shenreed

attention to thoughts

Let me make sure I understand meditation. It means observing the thoughts, but not having any thoughts about the thoughts themselves. In other words, don't have a second level of thought (concious mind) commenting and judging the first level of thought (subconcious mind). Just let your impulses and imagination and whatever images, words or symbols pop into your head tell you what they have to tell you. Don't try to censor them or control them, or even to interpret them right away. Wait untill after. Is this an accurate description of meditation?

Re: attention to thoughts

Hi, Ararchist1

In the intro. of “how-to” section I mentioned:

"Meditation like everything else has its duality and is a double edged sword. It can be used as means to control, calm and still the mind, your consciousness, or it can be used as a doorway to expand your consciousness, your view of yourself and your life.”

Later I wrote, and I have now put some key words in BOLD: “At the denial end of meditation, the ultimate goal is to control and still the mind, to block out all thoughts and feelings including those of the physical body and to be in a state of emptiness or nothingness. Having said that, it is difficult to remain in this state of non-conscious thought, non-being, so to speak, as sooner or later words or pictures will come to mind. At first one merely allows whatever words, pictures, or feelings to come into their conscious awareness, to be the silent witness. At the same time, if your goal is denial, to still the mind, then this is not desired and so you choose to move these thoughts out of your consciousness.

Then under the actual “How–to” section I wrote:
Meditation: Now from your place of centre, this quiet place, your sanctuary, simply allow your mind to become still, to open, and to receive. Once you’ve reached this point there is nothing more you need do, but to allow your awareness to become still in this space. As you enter this silent inner space you may begin to hear, see, or sense things around you, sometimes the communication is vivid and direct, other times it is soft, subtle or symbolic. If interfering, judgmental and critical thoughts come up, simply acknowledge them, and ask them to wait until you are finished your meditation or to join you in this quiet time. Allow yourself to stay here as long as you feel you need to, or you may have previously determined how long you are going to meditate.

I can see where one might be confused by what I wrote in this last paragraph. By “interfering, judgmental and critical thoughts,” I mean your personal conscious thoughts like, I’m hungry or thirsty, I’m too hot, I need to go to the bathroom, this will never work, what if the phone rings, I have to make supper, thoughts of work, thoughts of another person, I’m not feeling anything so it can’t be working, etc, etc. This (distraction voice) is a part from, but apart of, your conscious voice and is different from “other” voices” that you will hear. If in you silence you suddenly become aware of someone speaking to you saying something like, “We are pleased with your intent to contact us. We are always here with you, fear not. In the days ahead……” Now you are tapping into another aspect of consciousness that is not in your conscious awareness and has nothing to do with getting supper or telling you what to do or whatever.

It is at this point when you hear, see, sense or feel something other than your conscious self that you have to make a conscious choice. Deny it and tell it to go away or allow it to communicate with you and you with it. If denial is your intent that like I said earlier, then you will simply push it aside and search for your silence and reverie. If denial is NOT your intent, then like I posted later on in the section,
“The next progression is to enter into an internal dialogue with the voices and sights that are coming to your awareness. Following that, is the deliberate guiding of the conscious mind to different realms and aspects of self and to simply becoming aware of what you are experiencing or to allow yourself to verbally express it.”

I hope that clarifies your question.
Shenreed
