The Movie, The Matrix (1)
Hi everyone,
Here are some lines that I'd like to share that I feel are significant. There is a lot of symbolic truths in the movie, especially about the Matrix as a symbol of our imprints, programs and beliefs, that we believe as reality and truth but arent reality or the truth.
Morpheus: I imagine that right now you're feeling a bit like Alice. Tumbling down the rabbit hole?
Neo: You could say that.
Morpheus: I can see it in your eyes. You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he's expecting to wake up. Ironically, this is not far from the truth. Do you believe in fate, Neo?
Neo: No.
Morpheus: Why not?
Neo: Because I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life.
Morpheus: I know exactly what you mean. Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know, you can't explain. But you feel it. You felt it your entire life. That there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there. Like a splinter in your mind -- driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I'm talking about?
Neo: The Matrix?
Morpheus: Do you want to know what it is?
Neo - nods his head.
Morpheus: The Matrix is everywhere, it is all around us, even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window, or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, or when go to church or when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.
Neo: What truth?
Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else, you were born into bondage, born inside a prison that you cannot smell, taste, or touch. A prison for your mind. (long pause and a sigh) Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is, you have to see it for yourself. This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. (Morpheus shows Neo a blue pill that he is holding in his left hand.)
Morpheus: You take the blue pill and the story ends. You wake in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. (Morphieus now shows Neo a red pill he is holding in his right hand) You take the red pill and you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes. (Long pause then Neo begins to reach for the red pill)
Morpheus: Remember -- all I am offering is the truth, nothing more.
Neo says nothing, takes the red pill and swallows it with a glass of water)
Morpheus: Follow me
Morphius, The rules of a computer system, some of them can be bent, others can be broken, understand?
Morphius, I can only show you the door. Youre the one that has to walk through it.
Morphius, Were inside, look around. What do you see, businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters, the very minds of the people were trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of THAT system and that makes THEM our enemies. You have to understand most of these people are not ready to unplug and many of them are so inert so hopelessly dependent on the system that they will fight to protect it. Are you listening to me Neo? Or were you looking at the woman in the red dress?
Morphius, Sentient programs. They can move in and out of any software still hard-wired to their system. That means that anyone that we havent unplugged is potentially an agent. Inside the Matrix they are everyone and they are no one.
Morphius, Ive seen an agent punch through a concrete wall; men have emptied entire clips at them and hit nothing but air. Yet their strength and their speed are still based in a world that is build on rules. Because of that they will never be as strong or as fast as you can be.
Neo, What are you trying to tell me, that I can dodge bullets?
Morphius, No Neo, Im trying to tell you that when youre ready, you wouldnt have to.
The Matrix cannot tell you who you are
Boy, Do not try and bend the spoon thats impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth.
Neo. What truth?
Boy, There is no spoon.
Neo, There is no spoon?
Boy, Then youll see, that it is not the spoon that bends it is only yourself.
Morphius, The oracle told you exactly what you needed to hear, thats all Neo, sooner or later youre going to realize just as I did. Theres a difference between knowing the path, and walking the path.
Trinity, Everything the Oracle told me has come true. Everything but this. Im not afraid anymore. The oracle told me that I would fall in love with a dead man. And that he would be the one. So you see you cant be dead. You cant be because I love you. You hear me, I love you.
Neo, I know youre out there. I can feel you now. I know that youre afraid, youre afraid of us, youre afraid of change. I dont know the future. I didnt come here to tell you how this is going to end, I came here to tell you how its going to begin. Im going to hang up this phone and then Im going to show these people what you dont want then to see. Im going to show them a world without you. A world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries, a world where anything is possible. Where we go from there is up to you.
