I would never cast him as me. I'd like a good old Gary Oldman or Kenneth Branagh.

i think David-Hyde-Pierce would do a great Jekyll. He acts in Frashier very well, as in the rest of the movies!

Re: The Perfect Cast?

I deliberately put off watching LXG until now cos all the signs were flashing big warning bells at me and i thought it'd be crap. I've finally watched it now, and yes it is crap. A woeful travesty of what could have been the best and most interesting film franchise for a very long time.
So i'm reading The Big Book Of Movie Directing Skills so that i can remake LoEG 10 or 20 years from now.
Anyways... my perfect cast. Well 10 0r 20 years from now my perfect Quatermain would be Gary Oldman. But if i had been put in charge of the current movie i would have averted a senseless tragedy by doing the following:

Mina - I read a rumour that Monica Bellucci was up for the part originally. I love Monica and want to have her little babies, but she would have been all wrong for this. She can't do accents for a start. No it would DEFINATELY have to be either a brunette Nicole Kidman or Saffron Burrows. Just watch Kidman in The Others... that primness is how i always read Mina's dialogue in the comics.

Allan - John Hurt. He would bring enough doddery-old-man-ness and cowardice to the role, while also being able to portray Allan's more heroic and manly moments. Allan (in my opinion) should LOOK like he is never too many steps away from fleeing in total despair. The fact that he always comes through is the nice thing about him. I don't think he should be too square-jawed (Terence Stamp) or gung-ho (Connery). But if this choice upset too many people i could be persuaded to go for Anthony Stewart Head.

Nemo - Omar Sharrif. Exactly why wasn't this guy a shoe-in for Nemo anyway? He was big back in the day. And i saw him recently in The Parole Officer and the guy is big and imposing, which is how Nemo should be. Nemo should have presence and should be kinda regal... not some midget in a bright blue costume who can do wire-work-assisted kung fu.

Jekyll - Without question Jekyll should be Richard E Grant. Watch him in Withnail and I. The guy can deliver a great sickly/nervous/twitchy performance and he is always kinda camp, which is perfect for Jekyll and his questionable orientation.

Hyde - Gonna be controversial here and split Jekyll and Hyde into seperate actors. Hyde should be Vinny Jones, purely cos he looks kinda like him and i was reminded of him right from the very first apppearance of Hyde. Also the personalities kinda fit.

Griffin - Ahh its all in the timing. 10 or 20 years from now and Gary Oldman would be my dream Allan, but in the present day he is relegated to Griffin status. He could perfectly pull off either. Think Dr Smith in Lost In Space, but with the occasional psycho outbursts of his Leon character. Perfect.

I would never have Dorian Gray in the film, cos i'd want to stick really close to the source material, but if i was forced... well, 2 words... Johnny Depp.

What about Tilda Swniton? The movie version of Constantine showed she can play androgynous characters.
