What's your favorite League character author

Mine is H. Rider Haggard, I've read most of the Quartermain novels and enjoyed them very much and Mr. Moore has put A.Q. in a proper light, in the novels A.Q. is brave but he does not see himself that way, and he is not a perfect person like most hero types are, he has his flaws as real humans do. He has a high sence of honor in helping his fellow man for a just cause.

H. Rider Haggard. No question. I never thought I could like a series of books that basically are about a hunter wandering around Africa and getting involved in lots of wars that are miraculously won by the against-all-odds side, but... the narration is wonderful, the characters are great (I loved Hans, poor guy), and... well, they're fun! emoticon I love those d*mned impossible to find books... (Yes, I know they're online, but I want them printed and bound, okay? emoticon) Currently working through Allan and the Ice-Gods...

Edit: I should I have said Bram Stoker, shouldn't I? emoticon

As great as Dracula is, I found Bram's treatment of the characters a little precious, too luvvy huggy. You know they all write in their diaries how brave everyone is, how they could all kiss Mina for being such a wonderful woman, and how Mina could kiss all of them for being such wonderful men. A little too much sugar.

I go for either Conan Doyle or Poe, 'cos I haven't read Haggard yet (tho I have a feeling it would be right up my gravelled path).

Sax Rohmer.
(I know. Literary-wise, he probably can't hold a candle against Haggard, but in a cheesy kind of way IMHO, he writes with more passion. It's the same reason why I almost chose Edgar Rice Burroughs instead).

..but isn't that the kind of nonsense you'd often find in a diary - not least if you've agreed to make the private diary public to your friends! If they'd agreed to let Mina type it all up, there's not going to be much 'that Harker woman... what a loser! Good Grief! I wish he had have killed her, save a lot of hassle...', now, is there?! emoticon

Although I don't think any of his characters have been mentioned in the League.I've been reading a few Edgar Wallace books of late.Excellent books. The Four Just Men would certainly make formidable adversary's for the League. And Mr Reeder would make an interesting associate member.

Any way I suppose I would have to go with Conan Doyle as I haven't read any Haggard.I just cannot seem to get into novels set in Africa.Although saying that Wallace had his own character who adventured in Africa in Sanders of the River,so I might to give them a try,As his other works have been enjoyable so far.

Edgar Wallace, huh? I knew if I hung around these boards long enough I'd meet another Wallace fan.
Yeah, The Four Just Men in pretty good, though IMHO, the various sequels left something to be desired (I liked The Three Just Men, however).
Sadly, I've never been able to lay my hands on any of the Reeder novels, but I think I saw ALL the episodes of the TV series The Mind of J.G. Reeder from the early 70s. Every episode was directly based on a Wallace story, and I understand they stuck pretty close to the originals.
My favorite two Wallace books, though, are The Ringer and Again The Ringer (talk about a great enemy for the 20s League!)
My favorite Wallace movie would have to be King Kong (Yes, I know he died before actually doing anything on it, but hey, he got the screen credit, after all). emoticon
