Sir Sean on Parkinson
...poor chap..! But utterly marvellous.
Didn't someone say that he was pressured into appearing (he's apparantly been persued for 30 years), solely to promote the 'LXG' film..?
Ah. Well... they mentioned it at least once, and played a clip - in the bar at the beginning, shooting the guy from afar. And the audience laughed. You could see the inner irritation, agreement? and ruefulnes as he replied 'It was a comedy'...
BUT! HUGE Praise for the original material!!
"It's good quality stuff..", the 'photography' is superb, etc., etc.
Good for him! Told you he was an erudite and so on gentlemen of the highest class!
P.S. He deliberately doesn't change his accent in films, because "The emotion is the same", we're all humans - whatever the accent - and so he'd rather portray emotion in his normal voice or something.

Re: Sir Sean on Parkinson
Aww- I missed the beggining, which was a shame, but he certainly came across very well- measured, softly spoken, self effacing, even.
Quite a different beast from the man we'd got to know through the tabloid coverage of the making of the film.
A further treat was hearing him say the title.
Exshtroardinary.

I agree.. started off a bit pompous, but then relaxed into the nice, decent sort of person you'd hope..!
(..did you hear him get bleeped..?!)

That's what made me wonder a bit... why Mr P and SSC both insisted on 'Extra Ordinary', rather than 'Extraordinary'... but never mind..

get back in the cupboard!
Darn, missed it.
But I did see a (shudder) LXG special on ITV2 with (shudder shudder) Andy Peters as host. He was even allowed to interview Sir Sean, and made a complete arse of himself.
Things must be desperate if Sir Sean poo pooed Parky for years and then after relenting, excepts a visit from an old children's tv 'personality'. I was expecting Peters to ask what his favourite colour was, and who he prefered between Britney and Christina. The Horror! It was all a little degrading seeing Sir Sean with his promotional beggar's bowl out, I almost shed a tear.

make the bad man stop mummy....
Well you did miss Andy getting rather excited when he corrected Sir Sean on something, he stopped the interview for a moment and exclaimed with hands victoriously held aloft 'yes! yes! Thank you thank you, I know something Sir Sean doesn't! How's about that then' or words to that effect. I hid behind a cushion, and tried to swallow my own tongue.

Better than making an idiot out of Sir Sean..

Um... I'm very/reasonably/fairly sure that Sir Sean was "Asked" by Fox/Norrington/DC/someone to go on Parkinson to promote the film. I didn't (and don't.. ish!) know that he'd been avoiding Mr P, it occurred to me that he may just have been busy previously..! But... Sir Sean apparantly is very friendly personally with Michael P, so it was a bit odd that he'd not been on previously.

Did he not then..? Shame. I'd be interested to know...

I saw the film today, and I do feel sorry for Sir Sean in that, too... cursory viewing, and I admit I was looking (expecting) to find bits to take issue with.. but.... well, it seemed that he was the only one there consistent in "acting", "emotion" and intonation. To my ears.
To that end, I reiterate his (excuse)/reason for not changing his accent, reappraise it, weigh it up and find it seriously accurate..! :P
