Why? WHY?!

Yes, I wonder WHY the movie (for the information that we are getting up to date, that is) so absolutely betrays the source material...

WHY do they create a new story? they could use the comic as a perfect storyboard...

WHY make Mina a vampire? She's lots better as the traumatised, but human survivor of a vampire attack.

WHY do they make Quatermain a boasting, cynical and connery-stock-playing leader? much the charm of the comic-book Quatermain leans in his has-been characterization.

WHY They made Jekyll look like ahealthy beefcake?
They don't even keep Griffin (who was a real nasty, but a remarcably good character), and Nemo is the shortest (When he was the tallest-even whithout the turban
-) of the lot. emoticon

By the way, the movie-makers idea of "going literary"... is naming "Dante" one of the characters. Then, "Clerks" was rather Dowstoyeskian.

Because:

1) Sean Connery didn't understand the comic book.
2) Sean Connery likes vampires.
3) Sean Connery doesn't play whiny, opium-addicted men who have a tendency to wander around Africa minus their pants!
4) Sean Connery doesn't want any little sissy-boy alter-egos in his movie!
5) Sean Connery is not going to have anyone evil working on his team of Victorian X-Men...
and 6) Sean Connery has to be the tallest.

Obviously! emoticon

Re: Why? WHY?!

I am actually looking forward to this.

I am also pretty happy with the changes. (Given possible change if it sucks).

I wouldn't myself would have made them, but I never thought live action film was the right medium for the LoEG. I've always pictured it as a live action film, and I pray to God that some day it will be re-made as one.

I feel that the current situation is best for a live action film. (I am surprised to find myself saying this).

And please, please don't compare the LoEG movie to a "Victorian X-Men." I HATE that comparison. They are completely different. The only reason that was created was in the hopes of selling more tickets to those who aren't exposed to the coolness of LoEG. Please, I'm begging you, for you are a sensible and intelligent person, don't lower yourself by saying that it is a Victorian X-Men. (Even the movie, which is completely different from the book, is really and completely different). (Sorry, but for some reason this comparison makes me sick at my stomach).

Hyde looks that way because it would be near impossible to do him the other way without doing him completely in CGI. (And, although he looks no where near as cool as the original, I think it is good).

Sean isn't the tallest, the tallest is Jason Flemying, but it will make little difference in the movie.

I miss Griffin (he was one of my all time favorite villians, completely evil, kicking the crap out of Hyde in the evil department, but I'll stop beating that already dead horse). We'll have to see how Dorian and Skinner turn out.

I want to see the Hyde/Dante fight scene. Looks awesome.

Thats all for now. I can't wait for this movie. You all are still going to see it, right?

I was being facetious...! emoticon I hate that comparison as well... one of the stupidest things I've heard over and over and over again from basically everyone involved with the film.

And I wouldn't dare miss the film. But it is enjoyable to poke fun at certain aspects, which you have to admit are seeming more and more ridiculous. emoticon

True, true.

It still at the moment appears to be at least a most enjoyable action film.

And sorry if I went overboard on the "don't compare the LoEG movie to X-Men" thing, but God how I hate that comparison.

The idea of them creating a whole new story for the league to face wouldn't bother me as much if they would of kept the original league 5(6)...

I just wanted to make it very clear that that is not the way I see them, in book or movie... I did get a good laugh the first time I read a quote of someone saying it, then realized, after reading it in basically every article on the movie that this is actually how people are trying to promote this -- as period X-Men! Gah... emoticon Anybody who has read a single issue of either series would know just how ridiculous that is, but apparently they're assuming moviegoers either don't read, or can't.

Still don't like Sean Connery. But Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and a few other movies have made it despite his presence, so it could work... most of July will inevitably be spent in a movie theatre, regardless. emoticon

By now, I've gotten used to the fact that the movie won't be like the original comic. Is it true that Sir Sean doesn't know a thing about it?

He knows about it. He just doesn't fully understand it. He is old school. He turned down the Martix and he LoTR trilogy because he didn't understand them. He decided to let this slide in the interest of it possible being as big as one of the movies mentioned earlier.

I'm hoping they at least made him read the script...! Or maybe he just makes up his own lines now?

(Sorry, SC fans... I just can't make myself like him!)
