Century - Pure speculation
Only two more weeks until first issue of Century is released. I know that we have a few clues as to what the overall story will be about. But it is fun to speculate and I've a few ideas what it might involve:-
What keeps Mankind Alive? - Title of a song written by Bertolt Brecht with Elisabeth Hauptmann and Kurt Weill. It is from the play The Threepenny Opera, which Moore has says forms is referenced throughout this issue. Since the play centres around Mack the Knife, quite possible that Mack may be the equivalent of Jack the Ripper in the League universe.
Paint it Black - Song by the Rolling Stones, which was a number one in USA and UK in 1966. Not sure of the relevance of the lyrics but
"I wanna see it painted, painted black
Black as night, black as coal
I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black"
does sound pretty apocalyptic.
The story is set in 1968, a year after Rosemary's Baby was published and the year that the Roman Polanski film was released. Since the Moonchild may well be the Antichrist, then I am sure that there must be a link with the Ira Levin story. However not sure where Swinging London would fit in.
I have heard that there is an epilogue set in 1976. Since this was the year that The Omen was released it may be that Mina and AJ defeat the Moonchild in 1968, and Damien then comes along a few years later. However a tv sequel to Rosemary's Baby aired in 1976 so it may be a refernce to this.
