Challenge to the Crown...

..I think that the flashback would frankly have been better as an added extra on the DVD. Granted, it was interesting, well done, gave the backstory well, etc., etc.. but it wasn't (I don't think) strictly necessary at all. A nice little extra bit - like the 'proper' ending - but...

Actually, I'm afraid I have to disagree. I liked the Smeagol-Deagol flashback. In fact, I've been surprised for the past two years THAT scene hadn't been included in either of the first two films

Precisely, if it had to be included, it should have benn included in the other two movies. Not in this one, and not at the expense of Saruman.

I wasn't grossed out by the scene of him eating the raw fish and in any case that's no reason to delete a scene.

They should simply add the Saruman scene (what is it, maybe all of FIVE minutes? ), and leave the rest alone.

That would have been complicated. One has to understand that movies can't take too much time because of the sessions which earn big $$$$. Unfortunately, Jackson made a wrong choice. Still the movie was good, apart from the obnoxious teenagers sitting behind me.

Yes, I do understand that. If a movie runs longer than two and a half hours, the theaters can only show it so many times and they lose money. My point is that the movie already runs over three hours and fifteen minutes long. Would it really make any difference for the theaters if the thing ran for five more minutes?

Well... maybe they're thinking that since it's already that long, anything they can do to make it slightly shorter is worth it... emoticon

Frankly, after the cinemas pad it out with trailers and adverts (despite our one saying that they wouldn't because of the length..) it's MILES too long to sit comfortably anyway...

Oh well. emoticon

Apparently a local cinema to me is intending to show all 3 LotRs movie's one after the other.Cinema seats been what they are one can only wonder what state one's posterior would be in after 9+ hours sat down emoticon .That DVT's what airline passengers suffer from could also be a problem.

A multiplex across the city is planning the same thing over here. However, the three movies will be shown on different screening rooms so you at least get the exercise of walking from one room to the next in between movies (they did the same thing with the original Star Wars trilogy just before Episode I premiered).
I'm actually considering this lunacy.

I think most of the theatres showing all three back-to-back-to-back are offering breaks between...? It was two hours between each film here... making it an all-day extravaganza. Thanks, I'll pass... emoticon emoticon

As for length and losing money... this one could have been two days long, and it would still make more money than 99% of the 90-minute stocking stuffers released with the holidays.

Liked Peter Pan. emoticon

All three back to back? I hope you mean the extended editions!

Nurse! Fetch my catheter, and don't forget the peanut revels by jingo!

Oh, yes... it's the final test for the die-hard fans.

But for those lucky few in New York... apparently, they were greeted upon arriving by Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd. Not bad (one guy apparently threw himself on the ground with "I'm not worthy!" ), although at $10 a film, they probably should have gotten at least Viggo Mortensen too...
