V for Vision

http://www.empireonline.co.uk/site/news/newsstory.asp?news_id=16380

Seems another movie is in the pipeline...

I'm not sure how this will turn out; it strikes me as a natural story to adapt (but then, so did LXG) but it has dated somewhat; the idea of a 'Big Brother' state controlled by security cameras has come to pass in some unforseen ways since the story was written, and those elements would need to be updated to stop them seeming silly.

Like Moore says in his introduction, the thought that nuclear war would be needed to push a state into facism is sadly optimistic.

I'd quite like to see it with a 'kitchen sink' style shabby atmosphere, but coming from who it does I suppose that'd be unlikely.

We'll see.

I think it could work well as a film. I haven't actually (hate to admit this) worked my way through Watchmen yet, but that one seems a bit... heavy... to make into a single film. (But then, that's what the problem's really been all along, isn't it?)

V, on the other hand... it's plotted a lot like a film.

Of course, it won't be when THEY are done with it, if past experience is anything to go on... emoticon

Yeah, V could be really great if they get the tone right- which is one of the trickier things to achieve, I believe.

As for not having read Watchmen...! You surprise me. I steered clear of it for a long time because of the lurid colours; although they play a part in the script, and add that authentic pulp feel, I could still do with a black and white version. Same with V- although the colours look good, you can tell it was drawn as a stark black and white work.

Watchmen is a tricky one to do, and even if it is done justice, it may appear outdated, as superhero movies become yet more post-modern every year. I've not seen The Incredibles yet, but hear it has a bit about the impracticality of capes - as riffed on in Watchmen.

I don't mind fairly loose adaptations- as long as they keep the core of the plot and enough of the concepts. I think even an honest adaptation would need significant creative additions.

Well, I haven't avoided Watchmen for any particular reason, I do have a copy of the TPB, I just haven't found the amount of time needed to read it in the... um... year and a half it's been sitting on my shelf. emoticon

I'd like to see a V film, done right. Fingers crossed.

As for The Incredibles... saw it, loved it, will probably have to see it again to find even most of the jabs at superhero comics...
