Re: Christmas and otherwise.
Very late -- a general happy holidays to everyone. For what it's worth.
The UK is nicer at Christmas than the US. Consider yourselves lucky... And the chocolates are much, much, much better...!

Re: Christmas and otherwise.
Please! please! enough with the confectionary tales! Even your smiley turned green Swede!
On the subject of Terry's Chocolate Oranges, (superficial damage to the packaging aside ), does anyone still crack them on the table before opening them anymore to separate the segments like they used to in the adverts?
As to the 2nd volume:
I haven't got to the almanac yet, sorry SP. That will require a quiet Sunday afternoon, a couple of glasses of Taylor's port and some shortbread petticoat tails.
Yes Ntnon, more of a character study, which was welcome but I felt that it was all a little too brief. The first Vol had to cement the various group members, but the main plot didn't feel rushed, this one did. I guess you just can't get enough of a good thing. I loved the opening scenes and Kev's art work is stunning. Just feared a few wasted opportunities in Moreau etc.
Hyde was easily the best thing in it.
Still there is a very amusing poem addressed to impatient fans who showered Moore and O'Neil with complaints at the end of the HB. I did giggle.
Any way Merry New Year!

...never works. There always seems to be a stem in the middle whatever you try...!

The poem was superb, certainly! Just made me mourn the letters page a bit more, though...

Re: Christmas and otherwise.
Perhaps one of our colonial cousins can answer this question. Why is it?And I ask this as my mum has a friend from Houston/Texas staying for the weekend, why is it we,in conversation understand you Americans perfectly but you do not understand we British. And we have to repeat ourselves? And do Americans from different parts of your country have difficulties understanding an American from another part?

Because Americans, especially we Southern (like Texas) Americans, draaaaaaawl out our words, while you Brits have better things to do and throw things out a little quickly for slow American minds to grasp.
Americans don't have trouble understanding each other -- carefully-constructed region-directed insults usually solve that problem.
