Van Helsing

I thought this film would be worth its own thread. I saw some of the shooting while I was in Prague, and now I see from the trailer (at www.apple.com) that they have nicked a very O'neill/Mooreish Mr. Hyde, who they have even placed on the rooftops of Paris!
The really galling thing is that the cinematography of this rival film looks far, far superior to anything we saw in lxg *sob*!

Well, I don't know about DVDising, but Channel 5 showed (most/some/several) of the AniMatrix prequels reasonably quickly, so.... keep an eye on the TV Papers. emoticon

Mr. Hyde? They've stuck him in this too...? Sure that's not Frankenstein's monster you're seeing? (I haven't seen the trailer yet... stupid local theaters... stupid bad Internet connection... emoticon But I did see a magazine picture of the monster... similar look.)

Re: Van Helsing

Nope, it most definitely is Mr. Hyde- we see Frankenstein's Monster (identified as Frankenstein, natch) in another scene.

Interestingly, it appears that This Hyde loses an arm in his battle with Van Helsing.

The visual similarity between Van Helsing and Vampire Hunter D has been pointed out over at aintitcool.com ...but don't you think the Monster look a lot like Peter Boyle in Young Frankenstein?

On a side note; why is 'theatre' used in place of 'cinema' in the USA? I understand it's a contraction from 'movie theatre' -but what does one then call an actual theatre wiv a stage in it?
Call me stupid, but it was a long time before I twigged that (Grau)mann's Chinese Theatre was actually a cinema.
What did we pedants do before the internet came along, I wonder?

The same. Americans and the English language don't really always work well together... emoticon But... "cinema." Sorry. I try to remember these things. emoticon

Re: Van Helsing

But speaking of Peter Boyle-esque monsters... and besides the cinematography... does it look good? Between Troy, Alexander, King Arthur and this... summer could be amazing... high hopes! emoticon
