Re: CBA #25

Well, that was an answer worth the wait.
Quartermass, huh? I'm afraid I've never seen The Quartermass Experiment (neither the TV series nor the movie), but I have seen Quartermass 2 (um, the movie), and I have Quartermass and the Pit on VHS somewhere.
(Incidentally, is there any chance in HELL one could find the ORIGINAL two TV series??)
From your choices you're obviously a Nigel Kneale fan. I saw The Abominable Snowman (I'll see anything with Peter Cushing) a looong time ago. Funny, it never occurred to me to look for it on DVD. (Great, more spending).
I've heard of X the Unknown, but know practically nothing about it. Is it good?
What is Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter? (Or were those two separate entries? In which case are you talking about Vampire Hunter D?)

Plus today for a fiver Charley Says.A D.V.D. compilation of all the old British public information films. Some of these are absolutely hilarious and some even scary.Perfect for a night when you've had a bit to drink to fully appreciate them.

The one with the guy stopping at that junction, and the giant hand comes along and picks him up terrified me as a kid. Then there was the girl with the sparkler, never had one of those again on Bonfire Night. Oh and the frisbee/ball in a power station horror, could cope with a thousand Draculas over that piece of work.

I even found charley a little freaky.

Oh and Kobe if you're worried about my opinion of you lessening over your latest purchases.....I bought Scooby Doo the other day, and then proceeded to watch it three times. I think it's a cry for help.

Actually it's more a point of it been my mission in life to get a copy of every British Horror Movie made on D.V.D.I have a copy of the TV version of Quatermas and the PIt on D.V.D. but I am under the impression that the other two have been lost emoticon oh well. X the Unknown is another early Hammer film and is very much in the same vein as the Quatermas films. Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter is one of the later Hammer films and is one of my top ten faves it was written and directed by Brian Clements of Avengers fame. And is a nice spin on the Vampire genre.

Batfink: I haven't had a chance to see the Charlie Says D.V.D yet.But it was certainly a bargain at a Fiver I got it from HMV and a few years back it was released as two VHS videos that cost a tenner each and guess who got them?Any how at least I have replaced two bulky videos with with a nice slim line D.V.D.

Cheers.
As long as we're on the subject, do you have any idea WHY on earth they've released the DVD for Scars of Dracula (Christopher Lee's fifth outing as the Count and not really one of the better ones, IMHO), while Dracula Has Risen from the Grave and Taste the Blood of Dracula (Lee's third and fourth respectively, and much better movies) have been left forgotten? I know they exist as VHS versions, but I too would like to replace "bulky videos" with "nice slim line DVDs."
(For anyone who hasn't seen these movies, trust me, they're not as bad as their titles would lead you to believe, though don't expect anything resembling a faithful literal adaptation). emoticon
Ditto for Brides of Dracula. I know it doesn't have Lee (um, no Dracula in the movie actually), but I've always liked that one. Again, like I already said, I'll watch anything with Peter Cushing.
The situation on the Frankenstein front (Hammer Films' OTHER great franchise) is just as bad, unless I have mistaken information. People in the UK can fill the blanks here, probably.
As far as I know, there are DVDs for the first two entries (Curse of Frankenstein and Revenge of Frankenstein). According to Amazon there is another DVD, Frankenstein Created Woman (the fourth entry) and, inexplicably, one for Horror of Frankenstein, the very WORST of the entire series IMHO (if they really HAD to put on DVD one of the two movies not directed by Fisher I would've rather they gave us Evil of Frankenstein --which is just as incoherent, I know, but I used to like it when I was a little kid).
Left forgotten are Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed (which was originally released BEFORE Horror, for god's sakes) and Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell. (Again, they're actually much better than their titles would have you believe).
I just wish Warner, or whoever it is in charge of this, would get off their collective behinds and gave us a FULL Hammer filmography. Let's face it, they might be guilty pleasures, but I'm certain they would sell like pancakes.

Um, oh yeah, buy CBA #25.
(Maybe we should start a whole new thread?)

I got a DVD copy of Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell a couple of weeks ago.It has been released by a company called DD Video. The same company who have released the other Hammer films I mentioned. They all have commentaries and other extras so are well worth getting.

As far as the other Dracula and Frankenstein films are concerned I have no idea why they have not been released on DVD yet.As the Scars of Dracula and Horror of Frankenstein were released in the two Hammer box sets last year I do wonder (hope) if there will be a box set release this year with the other movies on.

If anyone can find a copy of Electric Grafitti, you MUST buy it.. that is one of the funniest Public Information Videos EVER.... emoticon If some of them seem scary, well.. this one is the opposite.. 1980s children acting badly... over-the-top sound effects... unlikely scenarios, and then some hysterical voice overs... So, so good..

...if you mean the cartoons, fair enough. If you're talking about the film.. Good Grief. emoticon I really, really want to watch it.. Rowan Atkinson's in there, but.. Grief. I saw the first ten minutes and couldn't watch any more. It's worse than the 'revised' Time Machine, Matrix: Reloaded and Daredevil, and even slightly worse than the Hulk. Very Terrible... but, I don't think less of you.. emoticon

And I remmember your description of the 'girl on the ladder' thing from Electric Graffiti on the old boards. Extremely hysterical emoticon.

Re: CBA #25

Hey, SP
I finally found the Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter DVD (we really should rename this thread), and, bizarrely enough, a copy of The Satanic Rites of Dracula, the last of the Hammer entries. Why that appallingly BAD movie got the DVD treatment while Dracula Has Risen and Taste the Blood of Dracula continue being ignored is beyond me (for those who haven't read this entire thread, TRUST me, the movies are much better that their titles would suggest).
I still haven't found that Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell DVD you told me about. Was it only released in the UK?
Anyway, Kronos was REALLY good. Almost like a 50s Hammer, rather than a 70s Hammer, if you know what I mean.

Re: CBA #25

Yeah I believe the DVD of Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell is a UK release. There are a couple of Horror Classics box sets coming out in the UK from Warner, one a collection of Hammer films.Frankenstein Created Woman,Night of the Zombies,Vengeance of She,To the Devil a Daughter and Quatermas and the Pit.
The other set is a general Horror one which includes Night of the Eagle,Masque of the Red Death and the all time classic that I seem to be the only one to have a soft spot for Zoltan the Hound of Dracula.
I have heard a rumor that the remaining Dracula films may be released in a Dracula box set (presumably for October next year. For us in the UK we are still waiting for DVD releases of Dracula has risen from the Grave,Taste the Blood of Dracula,Dracula 1972 and the Satanic rites of Dracula.Oh and the Dracula less but still superb Brides of Dracula, which is basically all of them bar three.
May I also recommend the following website Zeta Minor its primarily to do with UK DVD releases but there is a page comparing both US and UK Hammer Film releases.

Yeah, Brides of Dracula is GREAT like I said somewhere on this thread. Nice to know Quartermass and the Pit is coming out in DVD. I have an old VHS version (which I taped myself probably fifteen years ago) and as you can imagine the image quality leaves something to be desired.
I'll be honest with you and tell you I've never even heard of Zoltan the Hound of Dracula.
THXS for the site. I'll check it out right now.
