What about Kev?

It's about time we paid tribute to the other half of the team- please, step forward Mr. K. O'Neill!

It was his work on 'Marshal Law' that opened my horizons, lobbing a hand grenade into the world of the Super Hero after the pointed dart of Watchmen- which I'm afraid to admit I put off reading for far too long due to the hideous colour scheme (which one could read as a tribute... but I digress) That first series is such a great whodunnit, and his use of colour is exquisite - such a shame he couldn't have coloured the League too!
Still, while Jess et al await the release of the League originals, I sit back and look at my Marshal Law page and smile contentedly.

Look back at his work in 200AD- anyone who hasn't seen Nemesis should check it out for its simply gorgeous use of black and white- not to mention all the other strips he was involved in, from Metalzoic to Dredd himself.

Hope this provokes some more O'Neill lovers into writing!

By all means.
I assume you're talking about the FIRST Marshall Law miniseries (the one Marvel/Epic did many a moon ago).
Probably the Marshall's finest hour. For me, too, that was the first time I even became aware of O'Neill.
I'd seen his work on some short stories on several comics from DC (his partnership with Alan moore on those Tales of the Green Lantern Corps springs to mind) and SOME of his stuff on 2000AD, and I didn't think much of it. The Marshall Law stories (actually appearing at the same time, pretty much) was a quantum leap forward that he's kept to this day.
IMHO, the other strips he and Pat Mills worked on are not as good, but PLEASE, go out and buy the reprint collections Titan Books is publishing these days and judge for yourself.

The A.B.C. Warriors are pretty good.. (and titularly amusing from an A.B.C./ABC point of view...)

..and while you're there, buy Sláine, the Irish Mega-Myth... very mystically amusing! emoticon

Yeah, well, regardless of what the internet community thinks, the authors write it as Marshal, so... mea culpa.
Regarding the ABC Warriors, if you really like them, then you should really try the Nemesis the Warlock stories.
Lastly, I'll second the motion to buy the Slaine collections. The Slaine the King has just been released as a softcover now (plus there are two other softcover collections, The Horned God I and II). Now, only the Slaine: Time Killer HC needs to be collected as a softcover.
Titan is putting out a TON of good books. Besides the Alan Moores (Skizz, Halo Jones, D.R. & Quinch), and the aborted Grant Morrisons (where the EFF are the Zenith books???), they have some of the best Judge Dredd stories out there (a tip: wait for the softcovers). Last month they even published a collection of Dan Dare stories from the 1950s.

..and then they need to collect some more.. Time Killer finishes on a big of a cliffhanger..! I also think that The Horned God has been collected in one volume.. and either the collection or one of the parts also contains a little 'How to read Runes' bit in the back, which is good..

I get the feeling that Titan is desperately reprinting 2000AD because it can't get many sales of it's UK Printings of DC things, since they always seem to be a directt dollar-pound conversion, so it winds up a LOT cheaper to import from America, assuming the local Shoppes don't already do that to cut their own costs. But Titan seems to have a better monopoly on 200AD - and ironically, those books seem (relatively speaking) much better value for money..

On the Zenith note, I'm sure I read somewhere that there were menial legal issues on that.. sort of like a very scaled down MiracleMan.. maybe.

Yeah, actually it was me who said it back on the DC Message Boards. (I still like to shriek about those EFFING Zenith books every chance I get) . emoticon
I don't have the actual 2000AD issues where the Zenith stories appeared, or the first TPBs Titan made of them a decade ago, but I do have those godawful reprint comics Fleetway/Quality did in the 90s. Awful, awful stuff. Every page looks like Xerox copies. At least they didn't try to "color" the art like they did with Halo Jones, but it's still a mess. So,
where the EFF are those Zenith books???

Re: What about Kev?

BTW, anyone else read that Ministry of Space #3 is FINALLY coming out next April?
First Planetary, now this.
(Also, the LONG-delayed Wolfman-Perez Titans graphic novel, which I don't care about, but EVERYBODY else seems to, is also on the near horizon).
I don't mean to freak anybody out, but hell is probably about to freeze over.

(Next thing we'll hear, Moore and Sienkiewicz have polished their differences away and the next issue of Big Numbers is on its way! )

Hmmm.... well they keep saying Lost Girls is finished, so maybe MiracleMan is back, too! (How about a complete Watchmen with the thirteenth chapter..?)
