Planetary #16 is here (at LONG last)
While we all wait together for the last installment of LoEG we can at least rejoice with the arrival of Planetary #16 (the end of the world MUST be near). Much, much better than the overrated Planetary crossover/one-shots, it picks the ongoing story right where it left it, um, a couple of years ago (and you people complain when LoEG is a couple of months late)
BTW, I'm assuming that bright and discerning readers like the members of this board DO read Planetary. Otherwise, just pretend this thread is an illusion.

Re: Planetary #16 is here (at LONG last)
Cows must be giving kerosene and dogs making love to cats if Planetary is really out.
On the other hand, I did see that the Eagles have re-formed their band, so I guess it must be true.
This means there is hope for Battle-Chasers....
unless....
Have you actually read it?
Make sure it hasn't suddenly become a comic about professional wrestlers.

I did throughly enjoy the two collections, but it's only in the last two weeks that I've gone out and got the rest of the issues. Barring #13 and #14, of course. Then found I could have got them ALL on eB cheaper. Great.
But... #14 taken care of, and #13.. ish. So... soon now, I can savour #16 as well!

Re: Planetary #16 is here (at LONG last)
OK, so I've read it. NOT terribly revealing, though.
So Ms. Hark has a relationship with the Navigator...so? And what's all this 'Ghost of the 20th Century' stuff? Is he the Ghost of the 20th Century Who Walks?
All in all, mere postponement of the real issue - how's he going to take the Frightful Four out?

Re: Planetary #16 is here (at LONG last)
Yes, I would agree with you, but it's been so long since I had a NEW Planetary on my hands I'm trying not to complain too much.
(One of the problems with long delays is that when they arrive they only confirm what we had speculated at some point. For example, I'm certain H-142 is going to turn out to be ONE of the hundreds of guesses we've posted here and particularly on the old boards. Mathematically, it's inevitable, I guess. Likewise, I'm almost a 100 % sure what the adventure on Opak-Re, the next Planetary issue, is going to be about. Hint: I know who's going to be born).

Re: Planetary #16 is here (at LONG last)
To be honest I did not think it worth the wait. After the last issue(many moons ago)I was expecting something more substantive, maybe focusing on the Four after Elijah Snow sent the "message" to them in the last issue.
I certainly hope the next issue moves the story along or I'll probably drop the title.I do wonder if Warren Ellis after so long doing other projects(Which I am not the slightest bit interested in),he has lost interest in the Planetary. That been so and certainly knowing there was going to be such a long hiatus perhaps he would have been better bringing it to a conclusion with issue 14 or 15.

Re: Planetary #16 is here (at LONG last)
I'm afraid #17 is going to be a disappointment for you.
Just as #16 was just the undermining of The Four by taking their most valuable ally over to Snow's side, #17 is about the "secret origin" of another of his friends.
I do hope you stay all the way to the end, though. It's only what, eight or nine issues?

Re: Planetary #16 is here (at LONG last)
By the by, SP Smith,
what did you think of JLA/Avengers #1?
(It was you who mentioned it on some other thread, wasn't it?)
I'm really hesitant about bringing it up in these boards, but what the hey... (Though I won't bring it up on the "Graphic Novels" thread where I mentioned the recent Superman: Red Son and where only nton replied).
To tell you the truth I was sort of ho-hum about the whole thing (I guess I was more excited about this TWENTY years ago, when it was first proposed), but I saw it on my store and, on a whim, bought it.
It is what it is, clearly, but it doesn't pretend to be anything else. Not half bad, really.
If you're a longtime fanboy (which, I guess I used to be) you'll enjoy all the little references. Probably needs a separate book of annotations, but just like LoEG, you don't need to "get" them to enjoy the story.

Re: Planetary #16 is here (at LONG last)
I have to confess that I enjoyed the JLA/Avengers first issue, though how they let them blow away Arkon and the Qwardians is beyond me...I guess it's not in official continuity.
Yep, I'm an aging fanboy to have enjoyed it, but I admit it. Loved Clint Barton's lines about the JLA being Squadron Supreme wannabes. I'm guess he's going to change his tune before it's all over.
Perez art was fine as usual, but I was expecting something really spectacular after this long, long buildup. Maybe the next ish.
One surprise: are these really the most powerful objects in the universes? Where's Doc Strange's amulet and the Orb of Agamotto? Where's the H for Hero Dial? Where's the Star Sapphire? Where's Thor's hammer....oh...

Re: Planetary #16 is here (at LONG last)
Well after venting my spleen, when all said and done,I'll probably stick with it or get the HB/TB when it comes out.Mind you when Ellis gets around to finishing it will be another matter.
Although saying that (as has been said on many sites)I have been waiting 20 years for JLA/Avengers.And I must say I throughly enjoyed it Though I think it would have been better if the crossover had been due to the machinations of Thanos in conflict with Darkseid. But who knows? There's another three issues yet.One fear I do have though after looking at the pictures in the latest Marvel previews of past JLA/Avengers teams fighting together. Is that we might have a rerun of the Avengers/Ultraforce crossover where the Universes and history's are briefly merged.
Still it's shaping up to be a very nice sequel to the Crisis on Infinite Earths.I'm just hoping that both DC and Marvel get around to reprinting in TP the George Perez JLA/Avengers runs.
