Planetary vs. Authority

I am a recent addition to the pantheon of fans for the book Planetary and have also been a fan of Authority. (Not the new Authority!)
My point is that, as I read Planetary, I am struck by the complexity of plot and character, which leaves me feeling that the story and characters of The Authority are a little...shallow. Kick-ass action, but no real depth to them.
What do others think? Looking at these two series by the same author, which one is better?

Planetary without a doubt, you summed up Authority pretty much, the characters and storylines are shallow. But I suspect that is the point.

Glad you agree. I was afraid it was just me. I discovered Authority long before Planetary. Had it been the other way around, I don't know if I would have picked up Authority with the same gusto.

BTW, I stopped by the local comic book store and found a back issue of Planetary #1. Very excited!

Sigh.
No, it isn't just you. Didn't I say the exact same thing in the other The Authority thread you started on these boards?

emoticon ...not quite..! emoticon This thread is more about The Authority in its entireity, including the tales by Mr Ellis. On the other thread, (well, this was my impression, anyway..) it appeared more that people liked Mr Ellis' authority, didn't mind Mr Millar's but then didn't like the rest. So... there's a grey area between who likes what and why, and for what reason and...

Oh, it's all very confusing...! emoticon

Re: Planetary vs. Authority

Well, actually no.
I said that as fun as Vol. 1 had been, the characterizations (by either Ellis or Millar) had never been that deep to begin with, but that WAS the whole point. Sentiments that seem to be echoed in THIS thread. I was only pointing that out.
Then again, you're quite right, my friend.
It's too small a point to keep harping about it.

Well, I have certainly been chastened by Count Kobe27.
I may have repeated a point you made in other threads. Chalk it up to a desire to talk about anything during the looong wait for more LOEG material.
