Sleeper
I just checked out the first issue of Wildstorm's Coup d/Tat, which featured the characters from Sleeper. This was my first exposure to the Sleeper cast, and I was intrigued.
Any thoughts out there on this title?

I should be getting the first three or so issues of Sleeper cheaply from some handy eBay personage... soon, and it's been highly recommended by many diverse people, so.. should be good. I've not got Coup, partly because it's a multi-people crossover thingummy of which I think I've read... none of the titles involved (or heard bad things - bar Sleeper - or whatever), partly because it's multi-covers, and part of me feels it's nice to get all covers, but most of me says 'why?!', but mainly because it'll just add to the expense...
Oh well... I'll buy it cheap when someone puts it up for sale. Which someone will. Hopefully. Maybe...!

Dare I admit my ignorance and say I've never heard of Sleeper.

Yes, why not?! I think it's one of these 'sleeper-hits' (pun intended), in that I can't remember hearing much about it until relatively recently when everyone suddenly started sayign 'Sleeper's ending soon..!!!' and making various other intriguing comments, whereupon I thought 'Hmmm..' (as you do), and it's turns out that it's by a Mr Brubaker, who is single-handedly being good at the moment, apparantly.
He's also not averse to going on Messagey Boards at various points, and is generally considered An Alright Chap, which is always nice...
..but.. no, I hadn't heard of it until recently, either, but apparantly it's pretty good. If and when I get the first few sent to me, I'll peruse them and let you know.

Re: Sleeper
I have checked out the first season of twelve issues (set up similar to Top Ten). It is based on Holden Carver, an intelligence agent who receives powers from an artifact that came from the Bleed. It allows him to absorb pain without feeling it and transferring this pain onto others.
He is sent as a deep cover agent to infiltrate a global organization of post-human criminals.
However, his boss is attacked and falls into a coma, leaving nobody knowing that Carver is one of the good guys.
The series shows him struggling to survive in this environment without being discovered, and the choices and actions he must take.
Excellent series by Ed Brubaker.

OK.. I'll have to try and track down the rest of the 12 issues now, then...

Re: Sleeper
Well, I did find the first six through the trade that came out in December. However, this title didn't seem to sell very well, so one of the local shops had a lot of back issues.
The second trade collecting 7-12 comes out in June, along with the start of the second season.
