Learning the Human Blockhead

Spring 2002 I was attending Coney Island Sideshow School. I think it was during the second week the local FOX news crew stopped by to film us. I was upgrading to a larger 30d nail that day. I managed to get it the whole way in, but felt a prick on the way back. After taking it out I commented on the fleck of blood on the tip. That's when I started to get dizzy, and my vision started to cloud over. I tried to sit down on a chair. Completely missed the chair, and landed on the floor. It took a couple of minutes to get my breath and compose myself. I wasn't hurt. Not even a nose bleed. But all of New York got to see me passing out that night on the evening news.

Hey they might make a good banner! Can I put you in a tent, charge a buck admission and Pitch it out??

"See the Faint Hearted FFFFFRRRRRRREAK! More Amazing than the Amazon! More Terrifying than the Titons! What he can do will send Chills, Up and Down your Spine! He's ALIVE on the inside waiting, Just waiting to be SEEN, Waiting to be HEARD, waiting to show,, YOU,, why he,, IS,, the Faint Hearted FreaK! Too Bizarre you might say? Too amazing you might ask? Well go right on inside and SEE HIM as HE IS TODAY! Is he REAL? HE IS REAL AND ALIVE! He's not some CHEAP display! And Ladies and Gentlemen Speaking of Cheap, the only part of visiting with this ANAMOLY of nature that is cheap, is the admission price. Now, our normal admission price for you to visit and meet this incredible boy is only $2 per adult, $1 per child, BUT FOLKS, I know as the Great Americans you all are, you just can't wait to get in this tent tonight and meet this incredible human being and I know you might be saying, "Gee I'd love to but Money's real tight right now", so,,, THAT IS WHY,,, we are going to give you a DEAL you simply can't pass up. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, if you can lay the price of a childs admission, that is ONE DOLLAR, on the paybox, for the next 3 minutes and 3 minutes ONLY, each and every one of you will get in to meet The Faint Hearted FFFFFFFFFRRRRRRRRREAK!!!! I have to get back inside, so get your tickets and go now! Now is a good time to go! Everyone goes to meet The Faint Hearted Freak! Only $1 to meet the Man! You Heard about him! You've Read about him and now's your chance to MEET HIM LIVE IN PERSON! Get your tickets and go in!""

What do you think? Are we in business??? LOL!!!!!!!!

Take care Danny,

Ses

Re: Learning the Human Blockhead

The blockhead is not a trick, it's a stunt. Although there are many sideshow stunts that magicians have a gimmicked version for, sideshow performers are actually doing what you're seeing. Through training, understanding of anatomy/physics, and just plain guts we do what appears impossible. As Dannyboy's story shows even when training with professionals things can go wrong. If you want to learn the sideshow stunts find someone to train you, the Coney Island Sideshow School is a great way to learn many of the stunts. Gimmicked versions of the stunts never look as good and normally can be spotted as fake by anyone that has seen the real thing.
