Glass Walking

It was opening day this past weekend at the PA Ren. Faire. We had what the producer said was the worst storm on a faire day in 14 years. We had at least 2 lightning strikes on the fairegrounds.

Normaly I perform as part of a larger street show, but the other perfrmers were not comfortable in the wet enviroment so I performed mostly solo.

Everything went fine until my last show of the day. I started the glass walk, and jumped 3 times. I felt the glass slice into my feet on the first jump, but did not want to let on that I was injured. I'm fairly sure just about everyone saw the blood on the glass though. I DID get the loudest applause of the day for that show.

It was only after that it dawned on me that walking around all day with wet feet leaves them looking like I just got out of a bath, and the skin very soft.

I was not cut very badly. Numerous cuts all over my feet, and one small deep cut that bled quite a bit.

At least I've learned not to do that again.

Re: Glass Walking

I made the mistake of having my show help me break up about 70 pounds of glass sort of as a team building exercise as we had just formed and I wanted to get people used to doing a job together. Well one of the bottoms was left in with a three inch spike sticking straight up, I didn't notice it until doing a jump during my street show and it caught me right in the arch. I cleaned up the cut and performed a couple more shows, things seemed fine. I sat down and had dinner, when I tried to stand back up and fell my foot was so swollen it felt like it was completely round. I hobbled home and couldn't walk for days. I quickly learned that when it comes to the stunts you should always take full responsibility your own gear.
