TITANIC vs. Little House on the Prairie
In JC's TITANIC, you may recall that spitting scene on the promenade deck, for which Jack teaches Rose how to spit?
But before this film was ever made, NBC-TV introduced us to a very delightful 2-hour pilot episode of the soon-to-be hit TV series--Little House on the Prairie.
In this 2-hour pilot, much to Caroline "Ma" Ingalls' (Karen Grassle) chagrin, Mr. Edwards (Victor French) teaches little Laura (Melissa Gilbert) how to spit.
Ruth, like Ma Ingalls, looked on Jack and Mr. Edwards with disdain, for teaching their daughters; Rose and Laura this discusting habit. Ma reacted this way, "Laura Ingalls!!! Don't you dare!!!" Just as she was caught in the act of spitting, for which she swallowed her spit. Jack too, swallowed his spit, just as Ruth, and her companions approached he and Rose.
Rose put her training to good use, when she spit at Cal, just before she ran away to find Jack.
But quite unlike Ruth taking a liking to Jack - Caroline took a liking to Mr. Edwards, for kindly remembering her family at Christmas time. For which he risked life and frozen limbs baring gifts for the five of them.
Both TITANIC and Little House came out of Paramount Studios. Wonder if by any chance, if JC was watching the above mentioned pilot LHOTP episode, and got the idea for that spitting scene from this series? Hmmm!?

Re: TITANIC vs. Little House on the Prairie
I happen to have both TITANIC on both VHS & DVD, and the Little House series of episodes on VHS...and thought alot about the similarities between those two different scenes...
Rose, on one hand, got to put her spitting lesson to good use when she spat at Cal in disgust...while little Laura never did get to use her's. Oh well.

Re: TITANIC vs. Little House on the Prairie
Now the point here I would stress in both Laura's (to her Ma, Caroline Ingalls), Jack's & Rose's (to Ruth DeWitt Bukater, the latter's mother)case(s) is...
Even Jesus, the Son of God, used his spit to mix into clay/dirt to heal a blind man's eyes. This man had been blind all his life, so Jesus did a good thing by making him see again. Therefore--if Jesus can spit, why can't they?
Hugs,
