Review on BOTB at Medina High School
Id just like to comment on one of you appalling gig reviewers who remarked on ‘Dawn Walk’ at the BOTB at Medina High school. I have no idea why he/she decided to approve every band bar the Sandown High school band Dawn Walk - making their views very apparent that they did not enjoy this group of talented youngsters, pronouncing that their set was ‘bland’ and they are a ‘less rocky feeder’. I don’t know about you but I believe any band to get into the final must have been of some high standard and should not have been singled out by this reviewer. This reviewer is either one of those narrow-minded individuals who thinks that Janet Jackson is a step above the Cheeky Girls or just generally a narrow-minded person. Point trying to make: let people have there own opinion about the music and not let some ass wipe dictate what the music they think is good/not good!

If you cant take the criticism then you really shouldnt be on the stage me16. Everyone gets a bad review, but you have to use it to improve your performance.
If you entered the competition then you must have know you would be judged and therefore possibly get turned down.

OK OK OK - as Editor of WightVibe I feel the need to respond...
The excerpt of the review that Me16 refers to is
"Following Echo Ridge was the more mellow and slightly bland Dawnwalk. This four piece from Sandown High played a polished, radio friendly set, sounding like a less rocky Feeder. There was nothing really to make them stand out, but it was a good performance with five well rehearsed songs, ranging from one of their oldest to one of their newest."
Fran describes that the band played a "polished, radio friendly set, sounding like a less rocky Feeder."
Feeder are a hugely popular band, and the fact that Fran has likened Dawn Walk to them, is, in my humble opinion, quite an accolade. Addtionally Fran say's the band was "polished" giving a "Good performance" - therefore the tone of me16's post confuses me.
All of us at WightVibe work hard to give bands and musicians on the Island the exposure and promotion they so greatly deserve and If I believed that Fran had written this review to blatantly disregard Dawn Walk, I would never have included it on the site. However, I believe the review to be a good and honest opinion of the night, and can certainly not condone the derogatory words used in me6's post towards her.
Everybody is entitled to an opinion, which is why I have felt the need to respond to Me16's post, and why the original post is still on the forum.
Your opinions are always welcome - good or bad - get 'em out and known! But please please don't be abusive, there is no need for that.

fer gods sake this is pathetic, show me a band that has never had a bad review and i'll eat my tie!
the review was not even critical
use it to make yourselves better
and if you cant stand the heat - get out of the kitchen
this is the music world after all, its not all pussy cats dolls ya know this is rock and roll!

We got a recent bad review from the Fly. We brushed ourselves off and carried on tho.

anyway, constructive criticism is always good......
