The first person to know this has been Cuff.
After much consideration I have decided that next season will be my last of playing Saturday League cricket.
Don't get me wrong the kit will still be used as I intend to continue playing, but only to help the juniors we have, in the Sunday league and in any cup matches we have.
I will not be leaving the club, as I intend to start umpiring. As I do not believe that the virtually 40 years of enjoyment I have taken from cricket should be allowed to leave the game without putting something back in.
Whether that's for WLDCC or the panel it's for people to decide, as we already have 3 or 4 exceptional umpires! I will be doing the full umpires course this winter.
I will be 44 next July and feel that the time is right to move on. I don't want to be an old fart clinging onto past performances, which I'm beginning to feel I am now.
I have already made it known that I shall be stepping down as 1st XI vice captain.
I am also confident that I can finish on a high as (if good enough to be selected) in the 3rd division I expect to score a shedload of boundaries, but as it's been since I joined WLD, running maybe the problem!
If selected for the 1st XI I expect to pick up my 1st ever PS league winners medal! If not then why not a medal for winning the 5th Division!

Well Peter......what can I say!?
Hopefully this relaxation will enable you to recuperate and come back on Sundays stronger! And as for umpiring......from what I've seen you'll be a good un!
